Sunovion Director, Business Development - Digital Health in Marlborough, Massachusetts

Sunovion Pharmaceuticals Inc. is looking for a Director of Business Development to join our Frontier Business Office.

Our goal is to offer new value via contributions to the well-being of people in areas beyond the treatment of disease by pharmaceutical products through the application of the latest digital technologies based on the wealth of knowledge we have built up over many years in the pharmaceutical business. As such, we are seeking a Director of Business Development for our new frontier healthcare operations. This role will be responsible for the development and commercialization of opportunities in the frontier area by facilitating, planning, partnering, and promoting in-house projects, search and evaluation of external assets, alliances with outside institutions, and establishment of a global framework.

Essential Functions:

  • Managing the identification, prioritization, and evaluation of potential in-licensing candidates/partnerships including Co-development, Supply/ Distribution, Commercialization, Co-promotions and Asset/Company acquisitions.

  • Identifying and evaluating external therapeutic and digital technology assets for in-licensing, M&A, or partnership collaborations, in support of Sunovion’s and Sumitomo Dainippon Pharma’s overall business development strategy.

  • Applicant will Identify and evaluate opportunities through external networking, landscape and strategy reviews, and sound scientific and drug and digital development knowledge.

  • Identify flagship initiatives in digital technology. These initiatives should could complement our existing capabilities and support our pipeline and business strategy.

  • Leverage digital innovation to make our products and services more personalized, enabling physicians and patients to be more engaged.

  • Driving cross functional planning and execution for newly identified opportunities.

  • Identify the distinctive sources of value that digital technologies and capabilities can create in the disease areas of interest to the Company.

  • Identify the appropriate internal stakeholders from all the departments across the organization IT, Business Compliance, and Outcomes Research to form the appropriate cross functional evaluation team to rapidly progress digital technology opportunities.

  • Build collaborative relationships with industry stakeholders, including government and healthcare institutions.

  • Develop and execute sustainable business strategies, initiatives, and plans that are aligned with the company’s short-term and long-term objectives.

  • Prepare thesis to support the commercial value proposition of identified opportunities resource allocation (please delete) to support the company’s decision making process.

Minimum Education, Experience, Knowledge and Skills Required:

  • Qualified candidates will have a PhD (in a related scientific discipline) or MD degree;

  • MBA highly desirable.

  • 5+ years of combined commercial and/or R&D experience in the pharmaceutical industry.

  • In-depth knowledge of digital technology and its application to the pharmaceutical industry.

  • Demonstrated ability to develop strategies and lead through the execution of the associated tactics.

  • Excellent communication skills with a strong ability to influence stakeholders internally and externally.

  • Experience in conducting robust, cross-functional due diligence as it relates to potential partnerships and acquisitions.

  • Experience in a parent-subsidiary environment and previous global experience desirable.

  • Proven ability to effectively partner and/or lead teams and groups through decision-making processes and timely decisions, taking in to account appropriate data analysis and critical information.

  • Ability to drive, lead and manage through organizational change and periods of ambiguity and with a willingness to challenge the status quo.
