Belfor Property Restoration Carpenter in Marlborough, Massachusetts
This position is responsible to provide operational support in reconstruction efforts for clients. Intermediate level Carpenters must have extensive carpentry experience and the capability to working with little supervision. They must be able to assist with scope development with BELFOR Estimators and run project autonomously. Intermediate level Carpenters will also participate in the development of basic level carpenters. Developmental objectives for this position include; 1) expanding capability from residential to commercial and multi-family projects; (2) competence leaded and self-performing emergency services (3) increased material knowledge and proficiency with various carpentry subsets of framing, cabinetry, trim, etc. Essential Functions -Supervision of unskilled labor, Basic Level BELFOR employees, and the occasional sub-contractor in any residential setting -Answer simple questions about the project and when to defer questions to more qualified personnel -Maintaining equipment used in daily tasks -Perform emergency services as needed - - IE Board Ups, securing building against further damage -Recognize potential problems with the project and timely request additional guidance and assistance -Move and protect contents without damage -Construct appropriate containment for construction dust, dirt and airborne contaminant in working area -Using appropriate tools and accepted BELFOR methods, perform tasks related to floodcutting, salvaging and labeling baseboards, cabinets, doors, etc. -Attend and successfully complete shrink wrap training and complete 4 projects containing shrink wrap -Develop ability to identify the different types of insulation, their thickness and their respective R-value -Apply learned skills and materials knowledge relative to Trim, Doors, Cabinetry, Insulation, Rough Framing, acoustical Ceilings, Roofing materials, and Exterior Siding to daily tasks -Perform Daily vehicle safety and maintenance inspections and maintain in clean serviceable condition -Report time worked and equipment and consumables used timely and accurately -Other projects and duties as assigned Experience and Qualifications -Demonstrated ability to use basic carpentry tools and temporary power sources -Must be available to work nights and weekends as requested and travel periodically -Must be able to calculate material needs for projects including; cabinets, proper footage for trim with minimal waste; and door swings -Must be able to accurately read blueprints for materials take off and building requirements -Work under time constraints to meet specific timelines -Must be able to read a building code book and recite code for railings, headroom clearances, means of egress -Have a basic knowledge of nominal lumber, sheathing their sized and practical applications -Must be skilled at insulation installation, wood framing, finish carpentry, roofing applications, and exterior siding, windows and sealing the building envelope. -Must be able to safely transport, set up, and work on a ladder up to 25? off the ground -Must be able to safely set up and work on scaffolding up to 25? off the ground with fall protection. -Must be certified to operate a Hi-Lo fork lift -Basic math principles, i.e. dividing fractions and how to calculate square feet -Eligible to operate a motor vehicle per BELFOR?s vehicle policy -Will be required to meet BELFOR Standards in safeguarding other people?s property -Must maintain attention to detail -Must have a comprehensive understanding of customer service, principles and practices -Possess sense of urgency, professional demeanor, positive attitude, and strong work ethic -English language literacy and fluency Physical Requirements -Frequent lifting in excess of 50 lbs -Occasional lifting from 41 lbs +, assisted (up to 50% of the time) -Access and mobility in tight spaces -Sustained periods of standing, sitting, walking, bending, and kneeling
