Serco’s Training and Experience Program (STEP) is designed to provide undergraduate university and college students paid accredited internship opportunities to gain meaningful, hands-on work experience in a professional environment. Serco offers internship opportunities across the following three career tracks: Business, Technical, and Engineering. Our 2023 internship opportunities are available throughout the U.S. and Canada, beginning on May 22 nd and concluding on August 11 th , with 1 week off July 3 rd -7 th . You will work with your manager to identify the best working schedule for you, working no more than an average of 36 hours a week with the added perk of half-days on Fridays.
In addition to gaining hands-on experience, you will attend training sessions taught by skilled leaders in our company to better prepare you for a full-time career. Furthermore, we believe great ideas come from all levels of the company! Each year we challenge our interns to work in diverse teams to develop, propose and execute on a project that improves our ways of working. Throughout this project you will work with Senior Sponsors and meet with members of our Executive Team.

As an Electrical Engineering Intern in the SI2 Business Unit, your main projects will be serving as an electrical engineer working with the refurbishment, repair, redesign, and production of antenna systems. The Serco In Service Engineering facility currently owns and operates two antenna ranges: Near Field Range, and Compact Antenna Range. Several different antennas, both radar and communications are either developed or repaired at our facility and then testing in one of these two ranges. You will assist in testing of antennas, as well as development of test documentation. You will work with more senior RF engineers to help determine issues with the antennas and how to repair them, as well as documenting the process. In addition to two antenna ranges, Serco ISE has an RF Lab that contains an array of advanced test equipment with standard operation up to 50 GHz including vector and scalar network analyzers, noise figure analyzers, spectrum analyzers and power meters/sensors. Under the supervision of experienced RF engineers, you will assist with the test, troubleshooting, and repair of various satellite communications components in the RF lab as well, such as Q-Band Upconverters, X-Band Solid State Amplifiers, and Ku-Band Downconveter/Amplifiers.
In this role, you will:
Perform the required research, design, development and documentation activities for electrical designs from conceptdefinition, through development and documentation to production release.
Work directly with senior electrical engineers and the mechanical engineering area to define/develop allelectromechanical design requirements.
Works with test technicians and support personnel as required.
Define system/component block diagrams, identify candidate components and analyze electrical performance utilizingavailable CAD tools.
Perform detailed circuit and subsystem design utilizing appropriate CAD tools.
Ability to help identify and resolve electrical performance issues.
Assist in the development of the documentation package required to manufacture the product.
Assist in preparation for and conduction of preliminary design, critical design and production readiness reviews (and otherreviews as appropriate) following the Serco Gate Review process.
Help coordinate the assembly of prototype and pilot production modules with Operations.
Assist in the design and validation of assembly aids, test fixtures, test stations, burn-in fixtures, etc.
Complete engineering change orders (ECOs) required to update existing documentation.
Learn and understand the Serco process as it relates to new product launch or refurbishment.
To be successful in this role, you will need:
Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
Preferred fields of study: Electrical Engineering, General Engineering, or a related field of study.
Ideal candidates are rising juniors and seniors.
Foundational experience in analog and digital circuit designs and simulations.
Introductory knowledge of control loops including software development and implementation.
Knowledge of FPGA capabilities a plus.
Introductory Software knowledge of any of the following: LabVIEW, C++, VHDL.
Proficient in Microsoft Office.
Self-motivated with a strong work initiative and attention to detail.
Strong customer service, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated experience collaborating in a team environment.
Passion for learning with a wide degree of creativity and curiosity
