CTG is seeking to fill aTest Engineer 3opening in Lowell, Massachusetts. This is a 6 month contract with possibility to convert to FTE.
Description:
Looking for an organized & experienced technician or engineer with a background IP and DOCSIS networks and experience managing a development lab or comparable experience. The individual should have 3 to 5 years’ experience.
Lab layout: 250 cable modems, 2 CMTS, 3 RMD. Looking to add PON equipment. Will be some lifting (30lbs) and moving servers or devices onto racks.
Required Experience and Skills:
Knowledge of IP based networks and someone familiar with configuring and installing DOCSIS networks
General knowledge of HFC(Hybrid Fiber-Coaxial) cable plant Construction (piecing together modems, taps, amps, splitters, etc., into a balanced running cable plant)
Knowledge of power measurements
Skilled at terminating RF cable (various types)
Skilled at terminating CAT5/6 cable
Ability to measure and select appropriate inline attenuation
Knowledge of switch configuration (Extreme, Ruckus, etc.)
Knowledge of cable CMTS configuration and software management
Comfortable performing software upgrades/downgrades
PON (Passive Optical Network) experience a plus
Knowledge of data transmission test equipment (Spirent TestCenter, etc.)
Install, turn up
Provision to specific requests
Interest in learning additional test equipment operation (eg. Noise Generator, RF Switch Matrix)
Manage lab resources
Willing to manage inventory of modems, attenuators, taps, power supplies, amps, etc.
Help with scheduling test stations
Able to work in a team setting as well as independently
Able to take direction and give feedback
Must haves:
Good knowledge and experience of IP networking*
Tech support/ Test engineer experience (Comcast, Verizon Fios, data networks, etc.)
High end field technician - able to coordinate and organize
Hardware experience
Spectrum analyzers
Monitor configuration testing
MS Office - update diagram of networks, email etc.
Nice to have (not required):
HFC (Hybrid Fiber-Coaxial) access network
Commscope/Arris products experience/knowledge
PON (Passive Optical Network) experience a plus
Cisco/ Casa DOCSIS experience
Cable industry experience
Excellent verbal and written English communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group is required.
