Wellforce Histology Technician in Lowell, Massachusetts

A Histology Technician performs all technical duties related to the production of surgical and cytological blocks and slides from tissue and body fluid samples, such as embedding, cutting, and staining.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Accurately identifies patient specimens, blocks, and slides per policy.

  • Ensures accurate order entry of surgical and cytology cases, including editing of processing tasks and associated billing in Laboratory Information System, and clarifies confusing or incomplete orders.

  • Embeds surgical specimens, insuring proper orientation.

  • Performs microtomy, producing high quality sections which meet pathologist standards.

  • Performs routine and special stains, as well as immunohistochemical stains, with the highest quality, with appropriate controls.

  • Prepares and maintains equipment in proper operating condition in accordance with specific policy and procedure, and follows Lab guidelines when test systems are not within acceptable limits.

  • Prepares and evaluates needed reagents and controls for diagnostic testing, ensuring accurate and complete labeling.

  • Investigates and corrects pH inaccuracies.

  • Assists with inventory management by documenting opened dates on supplies, storage of supplies as recommended by manufacturers, and promptly notifying supervisor of low inventory.

  • Maintains an organized work environment to enable another to take over job duties.

  • Demonstrates proficient use of the Laboratory Information System.

  • Participates in training of new staff members.

Qualifications:

  • Associate‚Äôs Degree required

  • HT(ASCP) preferred

  • Some experience required
