This role will be responsible for the engineering design and development of all Components, Systems, and Reliability/Test platforms for all major programs. The ideal candidate will anticipate the need for multiple product development efforts; may assign resources to translate customer needs to technical requirements, evaluate potential technological solutions, and/or coordinate concept studies as well as feasibility work so that product benefits/quality are maximized while costs and schedule risk are minimized.
Plan, organize, and direct research and development activities such as DFM and DFA studies of mechanical parts and/or assemblies, prototyping, process and test development, V&V of in-line build and test fixtures, material selection, safety testing, and the transfer to manufacturing.
Identify, lead, and manage technical design reviews, technical studies, data analysis and documentation with the R&D team members.
Build and manage the 3–5-year strategic engineering technology roadmap.
Manage Engineering Labs for Modeling, Design V&V, Reliability, Machining, Component Testing.
Coordinate with internal and external customers and suppliers to ensure timely delivery of services, prototypes and/or products within the agreed schedule and cost target.
Ensure quality completion of necessary technical documentation to support transfer to production (e.g., drawings, BOMs, assembly/installation instructions, and engineering reports)
In partnership with Sustaining Engineering, lead and provide direction on failure analyses and mitigation activities, utilizing industry best practices such as Six Sigma, Lean, and CAPA.
Demonstrate focus on staff development, ethics and motivation through appropriate assignment of opportunities and training activities to support the achievement of both professional development goals and business goals.
Lead and/or prepare estimations of project schedule, development headcounts and budget/cost. Manage and ensure successful project execution by keeping to committed schedule and cost.
Manage ongoing project costing and resource planning as required, for timely delivery of deliverables and objectives.
Maintain a high level of communication with cross-functional teams, customers, and suppliers.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree in engineering; mechanical or electromechanical is preferred and a minimum of 10 years of experience in the Electronic or Medical Device Systems industry OR a master's degree in engineering with 8 years of relevant experience.
Experience managing engineering teams, vendors, and cross-functional relationships.
Strong machine design experience that has incorporated machine elements, mechanical drive systems, pneumatic actuators, sensors, multi-axis controllers, and design for cost and manufacturability.
Strong leadership qualities and initiative, with a hands-on approach. High emotional intelligence.
Good planning and project management skills
Familiarity with CAD tools like Pro Engineer and SolidWorks.
Displays broad perspective and effective judgment demonstrates well-reasoned problem solving and decision-making. Ability to be bold and decisive to drive action.
Builds a shared vision; inspires others to action; sets clear direction; establishes plans consistent with that direction.
