About the Role

The New Mobility team is building a suite of new products and services to solve complex challenges associated with moving people and goods at scale. We are utilizing Magna’s technology building blocks and capabilities into new markets and use cases. So far we have advanced solutions in micromobility markets (eg Yulu, Yuma, Cartken, among others) and have other projects and target markets still in development around industrial material handling, commercial and autonomous vehicles.

We are seeking an experienced Director of Engineering to lead the development of our Autonomous Mobile Robot (AMR) solution. This strategic role requires an individual with a deep understanding of AMR technology, scaled robotic deployments, coupled with strong engineering leadership. The successful candidate will be responsible for bringing AMR products to market, from concept through execution, and managing program timelines across various engineering functions within a matrix organization. This role will be based in our Lowell, MA office. #LI-hybrid

Your Responsibilities

  • Lead the engineering efforts for our AMR solution, ensuring successful product development, testing, and deployment.

  • Develop and manage technical timeline, coordinating engineering efforts with Product Managers, deployment team and customers to meet milestones and delivery schedules.

  • Work closely with Product Managers and Sales to incorporate product features that align with market demands and customer needs.

  • Execute strategic plans for AMR development, from initial design to market launch utilizing technical data.

  • Oversee a matrix organization, facilitating effective collaboration among teams to deliver product performance with efficient resource allocation.

  • Identify and manage program risks, issues, and dependencies, taking proactive measures to address them and ensure program objectives are met.

  • Drive innovation within the AMR domain, staying ahead of industry trends and technological advancements.

  • Cultivate a strong engineering culture that values engineering standards, safety, innovation, and quality.

  • Manage budgets, forecasting, and resource planning to ensure projects are delivered within financial targets.

  • Provide guidance and leadership to teams, fostering professional growth and development.

Who we are looking for

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in Robotics/Industrial Automation, prefer 5 years in Autonomous Mobile Robot (AMR), with a technical understanding of hardware, autonomy, and software systems.

  • Proven track record of successfully deploying large-scale robotics solutions to market.

  • Strong experience in developing and managing program timelines across engineering disciplines in a matrix organization.

  • Experience in safety assessments, hazard analysis, and risk assessments for autonomous and/or robotic systems.

  • Knowledge of industry regulations, standards and certifications related to safety requirements such as ANSI/RIA R15.08-1.

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Robotics, or a related field.

  • Strategic thinker with excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.

  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
