MIT Lincoln Laboratory Wireless Communication/Signal Processing Research and Development Engineer in Lexington, Massachusetts
The Advanced Capabilities and Systems Group is an agile, innovative, multi-disciplinary team developing novel system and technology concepts that address the nation’s critical security challenges. The group leverages focused analysis to understand solutions to defense and intelligence problems, and then develops the solutions in a fast cycle of experimentation and prototyping. Frequent engagements with government intelligence and military users connect the group to their unique missions and needs. Projects range from the analysis and prototyping of tactical military optics and radar systems, to investigation of novel communication, navigation, and autonomous systems. The multi-disciplinary team consists of talented technical staff with expertise in electromagnetics, optics, signal processing (communication, GPS), RF and antenna design, statistics, optimization, computer vision, machine learning, autonomous control, software engineering, embedded systems, and mechanical design.
The candidate will conduct research, analyze, develop, and test advanced wireless communication systems both in the laboratory and in the field. Required is a strong background in digital communication systems to include antennas, RF propagation phenomena, modulation and coding techniques, medium access control techniques, and multiple access techniques. Experience is required in the areas of terrestrial fixed and mobile wireless protocols to include 2G, 3G, 4G, and 5G systems, mobile device platforms, mobile device operating systems and application development, and the security of mobile systems and devices. Highly desired is experience with adaptive multidimensional sensor signal processing algorithms for detection, estimation, classification, and localization, software defined radio, and network performance metrics and measurement techniques. Strong candidates will have excellent analytical skills coupled with an ability to apply a systems-engineering approach to complex problems.
PhD in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Applied Mathematics, or similar field. In lieu of a PhD, an MS in the above areas with a minimum of 5 years of directly related experience will be considered.
Desired Skills: Experience in advanced signal processing techniques, data analysis tools (e.g. MATLAB), and C or C++ programming experience is strongly desired.
