Location : Lexington, MA

Duration: 36 Months and 40 hours per week

The Mechanical Engineering Group provides innovative design solutions for advanced technology prototypes. Example projects include laser communication, high energy lasers, optical sensors, biological agent detectors, and large radar antennas, for systems deployed on ground, maritime, air? and space?borne platforms. The group has expertise in precision engineering, opto?mechanics, mechanisms, electronics packaging, large structures, highly efficient lightweight structures, composite materials and additive manufacturing. The group is the Engineering Division’s center for 3D CAD design and data management, and is involved in every step of program execution from conceptual design to system integration and test. This requisition is for Engineering support to participate in the design of said systems.

The successful candidate will work as part of a multidisciplinary team, under the direction of a Technical Project Manager, to provide support for the mechanical design and testing of complex mechanical, opto-mechanical and electro-mechanical systems. Responsibilities will include design, integration, and testing of complex hardware from conceptual design through fabrication and field performance evaluation. The candidate must be knowledgeable in a broad range of challenging problems involving structures, mechanisms, thermal systems, optics and electronics. This position involves working in close-knit teams with design, analyses and test personnel. Candidates must be enthusiastic, innovative and motivated self–starters able to work independently, or as part of a group. They must possess strong oral and written communication skills and must be able to present status/results to internal and external audiences. The position may require travel to meetings and field sites.

Education and Experience Requirement:

Bachelors degree is mandatory. Candidates should have a Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering OR Aerospace. A Masters degree is a plus (there is some flexibility on the years of experience if the candidate has a Masters).

Skills Required:

Looking for someone with 5+ years of experience. There would be some flexibility

Experience in mechanical design, assembly and environmental testing of high reliability electronic, electro-optic, mechanisms, or opto-mechanical systems for DoD or aerospace applications. Must be able to work collaboratively in a team environment and demonstrate good written and oral communication skills.

Skills Preferred:

Experience with SolidWorks 3D CAD software.

Demonstrated experience with the development of opto-mechanical or electro-mechanical systems utilized on spacecraft and/or aircraft strongly preferred.

Top Secret clearance preferred.

Experience in DoD, military, and/or aerospace applications highly preferred.

There will be partial remote work for this position. The candidate must be local to Lexington to be able to come into the office as needed on the programs that they are supporting. Someone not local will not work. They would have to be relocating.
