Job Description

About the role:

The primary focus of this role will be to lead Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) and sustainability-related disclosures, develop and project manage EHS content for Takeda’s ESG reports, engage internal and external stakeholders on EHS sustainability topics, and engage with functional leaders across the company to further integrate sustainability principles into Takeda’s culture and business.

  • Responsible for leading the development and execution of internal and external communication strategies (media, content, stakeholder needs, periodicity) for Corporate EHS in partnership with Global Manufacturing and Supply (GMS) Communication and Global Corporate Affairs (GCA) with the objective of increasing awareness and engagement of all Takeda employees and external stakeholders in Takeda’s EHS and sustainability efforts and enhancing Takeda’s reputation.

  • Manage and develop EHS sustainability content included in internal and external communication platforms and products such as internal company communications, Takeda’s Annual Report, Carbon Disclosure Project responses, TCFD align climate related risk disclosures and other reports and surveys as needed.

  • Develops, in coordination with subject matter experts, responses to EHS-related inquiries from NGOs, media, investors, shareholders, customers, patient organizations, industry/trade organizations and governments.

  • Develop and manage programs to engage and educate employees on the company’s sustainability goals, strategies, and opportunities.

How you will contribute:

  • Project manage the development and inclusion of EHS content in Takeda’s Annual Report. Works with internal subject matter experts and external partners to develop report themes, the collection and drafting of report content, and coordination of all EHS-related tasks required for meeting reporting obligations.

  • Manages and develops, with input from relevant subject matter experts, content for EHS sustainability disclosures in line with leading frameworks such as TCFD, SASB, and CDP as well as responses to EHS sustainability related internal/external inquiries and regulatory reporting requirements.

  • Manages and develops content for inclusion on the Takeda external webpage and internal Takeda sustainability webpage.

  • Conducts peer benchmarking analysis on specific EHS sustainability topics, issue areas, and trends and monitors changing regulatory requirements related to sustainability disclosures. Identifies and communicates new metrics, EHS program elements or Takeda policies required to satisfy future disclosures in line with Takeda’s sustainability strategy.

  • Develops and manages programs to engage and educate employees on Takeda’s EHS initiatives, strategies, and opportunities to further embed environmental sustainability and EHS into Takeda culture.

  • Develops processes to measure communication and engagement results and evaluate metrics to enhance/improve activities and strategies to strengthen effectiveness.

  • Actively participates in stakeholder and professional organizations such as Business for Social Responsibility, World Business Council for Sustainable Development, GreenBiz, NAEM, Pharmaceutical Supply Chain Initiative, and others.

  • Partners with the GCA team and other corporate EHS team members on Takeda’s Purpose Led Sustainability efforts to ensure EHS representation in stakeholder engagement efforts, materiality assessments, internal/external reporting, strategic planning, and goal setting.

  • Supports other corporate EHS projects and priorities as necessary

Technical/Functional (Line) Expertise

  • Possess general knowledge of global corporate social responsibility issues and deeper knowledge of associated EHS-related issues/opportunities. Demonstrated ability to translate this knowledge into effective communication approaches and actionable programs.

  • Experience with relevant sustainability reporting frameworks and rating and ranking organizations including TCFD, SASB, GRI, Sustainalytics, etc.

  • Strategic thinker with exceptional verbal/written communications and presentation skills.

  • Ability to distill and communicate complex topics into executive summaries clearly and succinctly.

  • Detail-oriented with the ability to prioritize, multitask and deliver high-quality work in tight timeframes.

  • Experience developing and executing creative communications strategies for traditional media, social media, blogs, videos, and other communications vehicles

  • Experience in developing and executing effective and meaningful employee engagement programs

  • Develops strong relationships at various levels of the organization by working closely with local site teams and various global teams including GMS Communications, GCA, Global Engineering, Corporate IT, R&D, Finance, and HR.

  • Leads cross-functional working groups to align Takeda’s position on various EHS sustainability programs and initiatives.

  • Participate in various external forums on Takeda’s behalf such as the EHS Roundtable, GreenBiz, BSR, Pharmaceutical Supply Chain Initiative, and the National Association of Environmental Managers

Innovation

  • Ability to identify new technologies or platforms to enhance communication and engagement efforts.

Complexity

  • Must be able to work in a complex network, managing priorities from site, network and corporate teams

  • Engage internal stakeholders and subject matter experts and understand multiple viewpoints /opinions in developing cohesive messaging related to Takeda sustainability and EHS efforts.

What you bring to Takeda:

Bachelor’s degree with a focus in Communications, Environmental Management & Sustainability, Occupational Health & Safety Management, or other related communications or science/engineering degree;

10+ years of experience in Pharmaceutical, Biopharmaceutical, or associated industry; previous experience leading global teams; experience collaborating with cross-functional teams, external stakeholders, and vendors; previous experience in sustainability reporting and employee engagement.

Important Considerations

At Takeda, our patients rely on us to deliver quality products. As a result, we must follow strict rules in our manufacturing facilities to ensure we are not endangering the quality of the product. In this role, you may:

  • Work in a controlled environment requiring special gowning and wear protective clothing over the head, face, hands, feet and body. This may include additional hearing protection for loud areas.

  • Need to remove all make-up, jewelry, contact lenses, nail polish and/or artificial fingernails while in the manufacturing environment.

  • Work in a cold, wet environment.

  • Work multiple shifts, including weekends, or be asked to work supplemental hours, as necessary.

  • Work around chemicals such as alcohol, acids, buffers and Celite that may require respiratory protection.
