Position Summary:

The individual in this role will support activities related to the design, development, and/or manufacturing of NxStage Medical’s equipment products.

Core Responsibilities:

• Apply state-of-the-art methods to the creation of new circuit board designs for NxStage products; identify and implement opportunities to improve current products

• Champion major projects, or phases of projects, to address complex technical challenges

• Create requirements and specification documents to support both internal development activities and to allow vendors to develop and produce devices for NxStage

• Conduct / support Risk Analyses, including Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), Operator Misuse Analysis (OMA), and Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA)

• Mentor the product development team in the adoption and use of best practice design methodologies

• Debug new designs and develop reliability improvements for existing designs

• Provide technical leadership within the Innovation & Product Development organization

• Investigate new technologies, projects, systems, or approaches, and advise management regarding feasibility and technical risk

• Work with vendors to ensure that NxStage products and components are manufactured to specifications

• Work with Quality Assurance to maintain an approved internal Quality System that meets the requirements of GMP’s, QSR and ISO 9001

• Develop and support complex automated and semi-automated assembly and test equipment

Requirements

Desired Education, Experience, and Capabilities:

• BS in Electrical Engineering; MS preferred

• 15+ years experience in product engineering and development

• Expert knowledge and experience in analog, power and embedded circuit design

• Working knowledge and experience with CPLD's

• Working knowledge and experience in control systems design, analysis, and simulation

• Working knowledge of Agile development methods

• Working knowledge of a variety of sensors and actuators, including stepper and BLDC motors

• Experience designing for medical device safety and EM/RFI Regulatory compliance

• Able to run major circuit board development projects from concept to manufacturing

• Reliability design experience

• Able to coordinate the activities of and mentor junior electrical engineers and technicians

• Able to collaborate as part of a multi-disciplined product development team
