MKS Instruments Inc Machine Shop CNC Mechanic 2 in Lawrence, Massachusetts

A Day in Your Life at MKS:

As the Machine Shop CNC Mechanic 2, you will help lead our maintenance team in installing, repairing, and maintaining machinery and equipment. You will also perform regular inspections of machinery and equipment, carry out preventative maintenance, troubleshoot faulty machinery and diagnose the root cause of the malfunction using diagnostic tools and problem-solving abilities. These activities will all involve close collaboration with other mechanical maintenance technicians and production workers. In this role, you will report to the Machine Shop Operations Manager.

You Will Make an Impact By:

  • Identifying the causes of unexpected breakdowns of machines.

  • Repairing broken machines quickly and efficiently.

  • Performing preventive maintenance inspections and service on machines.

  • Thoroughly cleaning machines and machine parts, removing parts, and reinstalling as necessary.

  • Coordinating with your manager to schedule regular maintenance on machines.

  • Helping lead and direct work of other members of the maintenance team.

  • Oiling and lubricating moving parts on machines to ensure efficient performance.

  • Recording and reporting damaged, worn, or broken parts.

  • Researching and installing replacement parts for machines.

  • Preparing reports and documenting work performed.

  • Cleaning and organizing the inventory and maintaining shop areas, parts, tools, and supplies.

  • Collaborating with product manager or plant engineer regarding new products being added and modifications that will be required.

  • Making necessary modifications and implementations test runs; conferring with product manager regarding test results and makes additional alterations to machinery as required.

  • Performing other assignments as needed.

Skills You Bring:

  • Vocational or community college degree with related coursework or equivalent experience.

  • 4-6 years of job-related work experience.

  • Mechanically inclined with great problem-solving skills.

  • Works well independently and with others.

  • Creative and effective approach to completing tasks.

  • Strong communication skills.

  • Well-organized with attention to detail.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and high-pressure environment.

  • Experience with Oracle, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, & Express Maintenance, preferred.

Supervisory Scope:

  • Acts independently to determine methods and procedures on new assignments.

  • Often leads or supervises the activities of other nonexempt personnel.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

  • Prolonged periods standing and walking.

  • Must be able to visually inspect machines.

  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.

  • Must be able to bend, stretch, push, pull, and move as needed to reach, clean, and service machinery.
