World Farmers, Inc. Market Development & Food Access Manager in LANCASTER, Massachusetts
Responsibilities include: Market Development: Oversee sales of farmers? products through the organization?s Wholesale operations and CSA programs, and by supporting FMF farmers at farmers? markets. Explore and establish new markets for FMF farmers? Value Added products developed at our Commercial Kitchen and Commercial Mill. Build strong relationships with FMF farmers and understand their sales needs. Build and expand buyer relationships as determined by FMF farmer production. Oversee the coordination of post-harvest handling and distribution of produce. Work with World Farmers staff to provide training and assistance to Flats Mentor farmers on business, marketing, and whole farm planning. Oversee management of World Farmers CSA including relationships with pick-up location partners, administration of sign ups, and all shareholder communications. Ensure market infrastructure and operations are safe, efficient, and effective. Food Access Management: Coordinate with partners to increase food access within immigrant communities. Oversee the operations of World Farmers? SNAP/HIP systems and build new CSA pick-up location partnerships to serve SNAP recipients. Train FMF farmers on food access programs and oversee support of FMF farmers in applying for WIC/Senior Coupons and SNAP/HIP for their own business. Oversee the Farm to Family CSA Program in partnership with Just Roots. Maintain partnerships with DTA, SNAP, Farmers? Markets, and nonprofit partners, and assess new partnerships for the benefit of our programming. Business Development: Provide technical assistance in Market Plan Development and support farmers in annual revisions to their plan. Ensure farmers have the necessary resources to run their own successful markets. Build strong relationships with FMF farmers to understand their production and business needs and develop programming to meet their needs. Support farmers in establishing or revising crop enterprise budgets. Product Development: Lead Commercial Kitchen & Commercial Mill operations including permitting, goal setting, training, systems development, and farmer training. Develop systems and business plans to support value added product development by farmers and product trials. Reporting: Provide regular updates to reports needed based on grant requirements. Ensure completion of all evaluation and reporting needs for program efforts. Supervision: Supervise the CSA Coordinator Supervise the Sales & Market Coordinator Supervise interns each season as needed Organizational/Other: Participate in actively using World Farmers? project management software Participate in regular staff meetings Participate in organization wide events and trainings Qualifications necessary: Three years? experience in developing new markets for produce or food products, increasing crop sales for own farm or like-businesses, and/or business planning and business management. Experience and skills in staff supervision. Detailed knowledge of handling, distribution, display, and sale of produce. Familiarity with cultural crop needs among immigrant communities and communities of color in our region. Passion, compassion, curiosity, and creativity to explore and develop new market opportunities for cultural crops for and with immigrant farmers and communities. Qualities of self-motivation, time management, flexibility and cooperation, and ability to be effective in a dynamic, multicultural/multilingual work environment. Social Justice and Food Justice minded and motivated individuals. Ability to work a flexible schedule in the summer, including some Saturdays. Ownership of reliable transportation and a valid driver?s license. Capacity to build a collaborative culture across teammates to ensure effective and strong systems are built and implemented. Bachelor?s or Associate?s Degree in relevant area.
