Illinois Tool Works, Inc. Software Engineering Manager in Hopkinton, Massachusetts

ITW Electronics Assembly Equipment (EAE) Division is made up of four brands strongly recognized by Contract Manufacturers and OEM’s in the Electronics and Industrial Markets. The Division designs, develops, manufactures, and markets capital equipment primarily used in the assembly process of Printed Circuit Boards (PCB’s) and other industrial applications. In 2020 the Division had revenues above $185M and is positioned for above market rates of growth.

The primary software team is located in Hopkinton MA, with additional software teams located in Camdenton MO and Suzhou China. Our software supports multiple product lines including stencil printer, dispenser, reflow oven, wave soldering and selective soldering machines. The Software Manager will lead this geographically and culturally diversified software team to efficiently and effectively execute established software strategy.

  • Provide day-to-day management of software teams locally and remotely

  • Stay current with industry software trend and develop software roadmap for the organization

  • Optimize organizational structure to fit with evolving business condition

  • Improve and enforce software management processes to facilitate cohesive collaboration

  • Provide technical guidance for the team on software architecture

  • Monitor software team performance and leverage best practice

  • Work with Business/Product Managers to establish appropriate software priorities that maximize the output within given software resources

  • Foster software talent growth via development of existing team members or recruitment

  • BS Degree in Computer Science or Engineering

  • A minimum of 10 years of professional experience in software engineering, of which minimum of 3 years in technical team leadership role.

  • Experience with multi-site software collaborative development experiences preferred

  • Ability to embrace, guide and drive organizational change

  • Experience with leading automation control software development projects, preferably for capital equipment

  • Experience with establishing formal software revision, tracking, testing and release processes

  • Demonstrated success in talent development and team building

  • Must be a visionary that can develop long term software roadmap independently for the organization

  • Ability to function in a matrix organizational structure

  • Ability to make sound priority trade-off based on business needs

Working Conditions/Physical demands:

Normal working conditions involve seated computer work and operational work on equipment.

Domestic and international travel up to 25%. A valid passport is required.
