Installs, repairs, maintains, and calibrates instruments and electrical equipment used to control and measure process variables such as pressure, flow, temperature, and chemical composition. Able to troubleshoot and resolve E&I issues, including basic interaction with PLC and DCS systems. Performs all tasks in a safe manner and following plant safety policies and procedures.
Monitors and inspects testing equipment and other instrumentation throughout the plant facility on a scheduled basis or as needs arise. Corrects control loop performance issues making minor adjustments or tuning. Understands E&I field interactions with PLC and DCS systems.
Disassembles and examines malfunctioning instruments and test equipment. Replaces or repairs defective parts. Reassembles and tests equipment for conformance to specifications.
Calibrates and aligns instruments or test equipment according to established standards. May update E&I calibration program, which includes maintaining manuals and documentation required for ISO certification. May assist in developing E&I preventive maintenance program for electrical, instrumentation and control systems.
Assists in the construction of mechanical, plumbing and electrical systems for process equipment.
Continuously identifies problem areas and suggests plans to optimize performance regarding installation, hardware, software and/or process issues in close cooperation with Maintenance, Production and Engineering.
Performs or monitors installations of new instrumentation and ensures conformance with Cabot and industry standards.
Participates in scheduled safety meetings and completes safety training requirements.
Provides technical support on capital projects to ensure that plant standards are followed and reliable equipment is installed.
May coordinate the work of maintenance contractors, depending on location.
Supports efforts to implement and maintain the Responsible Care® Management System in line with the requirements of the RC14001® technical specification, as applicable to the site/region.
Knowledge of electro-mechanical and electronic testing techniques and procedures. Familiarity with drives, Allen-Bradley PLCs and DeltaV preferred.
Ability to use a variety of precision tools and diagnostic equipment; read and interpret operation and maintenance instructions and manuals. Knowledge of math in order to perform and understand basic calculations. Comfortable with computers as a user.
Troubleshooting, diagnosing and problem-solving skills. Displays creativity skills.
Ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing. Ability to work collaboratively with others in a team-based environment.
Technical school training relating to electrical/instrumentation testing and repair.
3-5+ years of experience
