Air Force Materiel Command ELECTRICIAN (ALARM SYSTEM TECHNICIAN) in Hanscom AFB, Massachusetts

The primary purpose of this position is to serve as an electrician for fire alarms, responsible for installing, modifying, overhauling, maintaining, troubleshooting, testing, and repairing fire alarm systems, including the city loop and digitizer at the Fire station, as well as other alarm equipment of moderate complexity or a system of limited complexity. Responsibilities 1. Installs, repairs, replaces, modifies, loads, and tests new and existing electrical lines, circuits, systems, fixtures, panels, switches, breakers, and controls, as well as installs, modifies, overhauls, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs fire alarm systems and equipment of moderate complexity or a system of moderate complexity. 2. Troubleshoots problem areas, inspects for defective equipment, and examines faulty wiring. Additionally, installs, repairs, replaces, modifies, loads, and tests new and existing electrical lines, circuits, systems, fixtures, panels, switches, breakers, and controls located in and near installation buildings and structures. 3. Maintains software/firmware for new installs and makes programming changes to existing software/firmware for alarm systems, subsystems, and devices. 4. Uses and maintains various types of hand and/or power tools, such as screwdrivers, pliers, wire cutters, soldering irons, cable pullers, hydraulic benders, and pipe threading machines. 5. Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work environment. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Conditions of Employment Continued: Possession of a Class D Systems Technician License (electrician) or greater is required, in accordance with UFC 3-601-02 8 September 2010 UNIFIED FACILITIES CRITERIA (UFC) OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE, INSPECTION, TESTING, AND MAINTENANCE OF FIRE PROTECTION SYSTEMS. Position requires the ability to discern colors, contrast, and depth. May work with hazardous materials such as asbestos or accumulated waste. Employee will be required to wear protective clothing and gear on these occasions. The physical requirements of this position as determined by the manager are: Makes repairs from work stands and other hard-to-reach places. Must stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, stretch, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts parts and equipment that weigh up to 20 pounds. Occasionally lifts items that weigh over 40 pounds with assistance from other workers. In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-2800 Electrical Installation And Maintenance Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.
