Location/Division Specific Information

This position is based in our Franklin, Massachusetts facility supporting our Chemical Analysis Division.

How you will make an impact:

The Purchasing Supervisor will lead the day to day operation of the Purchasing Team and confirm that the Buyers are meeting the performance standards. They will make an impact by performing multifaceted purchasing assignments to procure supplies, raw materials, and equipment vital for the operation of the organization, and releases purchase orders to suppliers based on Materials Requirement Planning (MRP) messages or Reorder Point recommendations. In addition, this person will be responsible for the direction and supervision of the Purchasing Team. They accomplish their own work, and they also ensure established procedures, practices and policies are adhered to by the team.

What you will do:

  • Ensures that safety and quality is maintained in the Purchasing Department.

  • Prioritizes work assignments and balances multiple tasks, including problem solving, to ensure all Purchasing Department assigned task sets are completed as scheduled.

  • Ensure the purchasing personnel are properly trained to perform their duties in a timely and accurate fashion in support of other functional areas.

  • Update and maintain all Key Performance Indicators (KPI's), matrixes, and lead stand up meetings associated with the Purchasing team.

  • Utilize MRP to plan the procurement of materials to ensure the best possible material availability for production and service requirements while controlling inventory levels.

  • Recommends and makes parameter adjustments to ensure that MRP is planning based on the needs of the business (i.e. minimum orders quantities, safety stock, lead times, etc.).

  • Manage purchase orders by implementing the appropriate actions in the supply chain as driven by changes in the production schedule (expedite, defer, cancel, etc).

  • Communicate and coordinate any schedule changes with Planning, Sales, Customers Service and Production.

  • Identify and implement inventory control and inventory reduction initiatives utilizing techniques such as Vendor Managed Inventory, Kanban, Bin Systems, Just-In-Time and Demand Flow to increase inventory turnover.

  • Investigate and recommend new sources of supply that provide maximum value by delivering quality goods on time and at a low cost. Work closely with Sourcing team to develop key strategies for the site.

  • Responsible for supplier management from tactical day-to-day ordering, to performance reporting and corrective action as required.

  • Work with Corporate Finance and suppliers to resolve invoice issues in a timely manner.

  • Leads high level improvement projects related to quality, customer satisfaction, savings, and efficiency.

  • Tackles additional tasks willingly and as needed.

How you will get here:


Bachelor's degree

C.P.M. or CPSM certification or equivalent a plus.


  • 7 plus years buying/planning experience in a manufacturing environment.

  • 2 plus years in a leadership role

  • Experience with lean manufacturing business systems that include Kanban and Vendor Managed Inventory programs.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Knowledge of Infor XA and SAP a plus.

  • Enhanced ERP and PC knowledge and skill sets utilizing Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) products.

  • Proven leadership and people management skills a plus
