SENIOR PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT DESIGNER
As a Senior Product Development Designer you will manage and design Handbags and Men’s Hats with a focus on aesthetics, quality and great value. You’ll execute according to the strategic merchandise plan in partnership with your team and leadership. You’ll develop strong working relationships with internal and external strategic partners. You’ll recommend new designs, techniques and materials to buyers ensuring that TJX’s private label product always follows the most current market trends.
Works closely with Product Team and Merchants to develop seasonally appropriate and compelling designs, according to the strategic plan.
Presents design concepts to merchants according to Time and Action calendar.
Interprets design concepts and develops them into new products, develops concept boards, sketch library, artwork design and selects standards using trend and color services.
Regularly evaluates freelance and external resource base. Provides clear direction to Design Assistant and external freelancers to achieve effective results in a timely manner.
Consistently shops our stores and the competition for fashion, trend, color direction and value. Has full knowledge of competitive products/brands.
Selects, negotiates, evaluates and purchases original artwork and in-house freelance services for artwork.
Oversees and maintains trend information.
Required Skills / Experience:
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design, or Industrial Design, with 5-7 years’ experience in Handbag, Soft Goods Design and Product Development.
PC skills including: Microsoft Office, Adobe Illustrator and PhotoShop. Experience with PLM systems is a plus.
Creative and innovative thinker who recommends and implements new ideas to drive profitable sales.
Knowledge of trend/color/concept services
Ability to vision and sketch technically accurate handbag designs, including all details, organizational components, hardware.
Experience working with suppliers overseas, knowledge of handbag manufacturing.
Excellent communicator with the ability to build and maintain relationships; you are the face of TJX to many of our internal and external strategic partners.
Self-directed- capable of managing their own timelines, set priorities, and be detail-oriented.
Strong Critical/Strategic Thinking and Problem Solving skills; no day is the same in off-price retail.
Flexible and adaptable; priorities change frequently based on business demands.
Influence TJX Merchants in decision making on color, design and silhouette.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects.
Strategic vision for the future; anticipates trends and their implications for the company.
Developed fashion sense for design, construction and ability to communicate and interpret conceptual design ideas.
International travel experience.
