Staples Principal Software Engineer in Framingham, Massachusetts

Description Job Summary

  • We are seeking experienced engineers with a desire to work in the e-commerce problem space, building data driven application platforms that directly impact Staples customers.

  • You will join a team of engineers and data scientists and work alongside them on machine learning problems like recommendation systems, promotion optimization, and customer segmentation.

  • Key responsibilities will include building reliable services and data flows that serve millions of customers a personalized experienced on a high traffic, high revenue website.

  • You will leverage a combination of internal tools and cloud services to build new features within a distributed, scalable microservice architecture.

  • Within an Agile development methodology, this is an opportunity to consistently engineer new designs and features that quickly reach production.

  • You will build the engineering capabilities that empower data scientists to experiment with new model approaches, and then together you will design and implement the next iteration for success.

Qualifications Minimum Qualifications

  • B.S. degree in Computer Science, similar technical field, or equivalent practical experience

  • 3 years developing and supporting backend web applications/services

  • Solid Linux proficiency

  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills

  • Interest in building services in e-commerce and data science problem domain

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree/education in Computer Science or similar technical field

  • 5+ years full stack development experience

  • Experience with distributed architectures and cloud services (AWS, Azure)

  • Knowledge of ETL approaches for both SQL and NOSQL databases

  • Experience with our stack (REST APIs, Java/Clojure/Javascript, Couchbase, Redis)
