Staples Pricing Intern in Framingham, Massachusetts

Staples US Retail Pricing Team is looking for an enthusiastic intern to join our team and help activate our Brand strategy. Staples US Retail is on a journey to transform to be the leader in working and learning, and this role is part of the team to bring it to life for our customers. You’ll be a part of one of the most exciting seasons of the year at Staples US Retail – Back to School. And will have the opportunity to roll your sleeves up in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with a fantastic group of team- and results-oriented professionals.

This position supports pricing strategy and execution for Staples retail stores. The Pricing intern will interact with all members of the Pricing team and cross functional partners within Merchandising, Advertising, and Inventory. The principal goal of the Pricing team is to maximize financial performance by delivering profitable strategies to the organization and ensuring that all pricing initiatives are executed to the stores and customers.

The primary project the Pricing intern will drive is having a thorough understanding of the competitive market during the back-to-school shopping season. Back to school is Staples largest season and critically important for the company, both in terms of financial performance and driving long term customer value. Collecting the competitor intelligence is essential to the company understanding Staples price position in the market, and if we need to react to competitor movement. Monitoring competitor prices, promotional strategies, and school-themed presentations in stores and online are in scope. This role also assists in the highly visible reporting that is reviewed by Sr. Leadership each week.

The Pricing intern will also be introduced to responsibilities within the team such as how we develop price strategies, the data we use to make pricing decisions, and the processes we use to make price changes and markup promotional ads. The Pricing intern will get to spend time with the Sr. Director of Pricing to get additional perspective on the role of Pricing within the organization.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Collecting competitor intel in stores, and online

  • Processing competitor data into Staples systems

  • Assisting in the weekly reporting to Sr. Leadership

  • Ad Hoc analyses

Qualifications

Basic Skills

  • Minimum one year of undergraduate studies

  • Academic focus of Economics, Finance or Math is preferred

  • Basic Excel

  • Ability to meet deadlines and balance workload

  • High attention to detail, capable of error free execution
