Staples Inventory Analyst Intern in Framingham, Massachusetts


Position Overview:

In this position, you will be a central part of our Supply Chain organization. You will also interact with the Merchandising organization that manages the product assortment for our online delivery business. You will manage the flow of product as we bring in the most exciting products to drive sales and profit, and deliver the best customer experience. Inventory Analysts will have the opportunity to work closely with external vendors like HP, Clorox, Proctor & Gamble, and 3M.

You will have high-level exposure, development opportunities and a great deal of responsibility managing a product line from purchasing through to the end customer. There will be training to learn about the business, including E3 education (Staples Buying/Planning tool), and the specifics of Supply Chain in our Delivery networks. You will have an opportunity to meet senior leaders. You will work on projects that truly contribute to the overall business success, and you will present your work up to business leaders.


  • As an Inventory Analyst your primary responsibility is to get the right amount of product into the right place at the right time. You will manage inventory levels, ads/promotions, product transitions, the overall flow of product and vendor relations. All of these levers serve to drive customer satisfaction, increase efficiency and maximize profit.

  • Utilize forecasting/planning/allocation systems to order product and ensure smooth flow direct from vendors into our delivery fulfillment centers.

  • Maintain appropriate levels of inventory and reduce out of stocks during critical events such as weekly ads and seasonal promotions.

  • Work with the Merchandising team to successfully plan and execute a variety of product transitions including new item launches, special promotions, seasonal buys, daily deals, etc.

  • Understand and action key daily reports, such as inactive inventory, weekly out of stocks, and forecast exceptions.

  • Ad hoc analytical assignments aimed at solving for a specific business opportunity


Basic Qualifications:

  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, operations, or a supply chain field

  • Requires a GPA of 3.0 or higher

  • Strong Microsoft Office skills

  • Analytical and process-oriented

  • Passionate about supply chain and retail merchandising

  • Enjoy working in teams and being highly communicative

  • Able to multi-task and be flexible with new initiatives
