Ameresco Electrical Engineer in Framingham, Massachusetts

Position Overview:
Ameresco's Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) team is seeking an Electrical Engineer to support the development and implementation of DER projects located nationwide, including renewable natural gas (RNG) plants, combined heat and power (CHP) projects, peak shaving power projects, and other renewable technology projects. This a hybrid position based out of our Portland, ME, Framingham, MA or Charlotte, NC office.
Responsibilities:
Primary responsibility to provide electrical engineering support for the development and implementation of new projects including but not limited to renewable natural gas (RNG) plants, combined heat and power (CHP) projects, power generation projects, and other renewable projects;
Secondary responsibility to provide on-going electrical engineering support for existing Ameresco plant operations including but not limited to utility protective relay issues, arc flash studies, coordination studies, load flow studies, electrical specifications, dynamic modeling and updates, electrical utility interface, and electrical safety functions;
Prepare engineering design drawings, specifications, and bid document development in support of construction, operations, and maintenance of customer site programs and projects in accordance with design/build requirements;
Analyze and prepare conceptual and detailed engineering design and bid documents, cost estimates, drawings, and specifications for renewable power systems;
Coordinate with vendors and installation contractors for design, feasibility, and pricing verification of proposed project modifications;
Provide engineering support throughout construction, project commissioning, and operations;
Cultivate and maintain effective business relationships at all levels and project phases;
Manage project expenditures and job cost accounting including documentation, approvals, tracking, and reporting;
Ensure successful project implementation that meets or exceeds company objectives, financial parameters, and technical needs required to deliver a robust yet cost effective facility;
Develop and maintain electrical safety and operational policies and procedures;
Provide proposal engineering support as required by sales development efforts including conceptual drawing preparation, proposal project schedules, and proposal narratives;
Obtain preliminary equipment vendor proposals and installing contractor proposals to conceptually develop the project and details;
Prepare conceptual design engineering and capital and operating cost estimations as required for project development efforts and input for financial models;
Collaborate with mechanical engineers to establish design intent and performance requirements;
Provide electrical engineering support required for interface with electrical utility representatives to define the project, communicate details, and help with the interconnect application;
Review detailed design documents including drawings, specifications, and bid documents;
Deliver support and guidance to construction managers to ensure successful project completion;
Support engineering needs for operating projects including troubleshooting, training, and documentation preparation;
Ensure compliance with company, industry, trade, and jurisdictional safety, standards, practices, and codes. And;
Perform other duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
BSEE or equivalent four-year technical engineering degree.
Minimum 2 years’ electrical system analysis and design engineering experience, with exposure to facility operations and electrical installation projects involving utility substations, renewable natural gas plants, co-generation, engine-generators, motors, switchgear, and transformers.
Experience with medium voltage equipment, load flow analysis, and protection studies and schemes.
Experience with one line diagrams, three line diagrams, and circuit breaker schematics.
Experience in specification and purchasing of electrical equipment including medium voltage switches, circuit breakers, transformers, cable, switchboards, and motor control centers.
Additional Qualifications:
Current Engineer in Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (PE) license.
MS in Electrical Engineering or Power Systems Engineering.
Experience with AutoCAD and electrical engineering software such as ETAP, SKM, Cyme, or equivalent desired.
Valid Driver License issued by state of residence and in good standing.
Ability to travel occasionally required.
