Since the acquisition, Staples has operated as three distinct businesses: Staples Canada Retail, US Retail (Staples Connect) and Staples North American Delivery (referred to as just “Staples”). With different leadership teams and strategies, the entities are both working under the same iconic name while differentiating themselves for the specific segment they support.

What you’ll be doing:

The Director of eCommerce Merchandising will lead the strategy and team focused on delivering an exceptional product and supplier experience across Staples e-commerce sites. This leader is responsible for creating a site experience across all product categories that provides the right product information at the right time and makes the shopping experience easy for our customers, driving engagement, sales, and profitability. The ability to develop best-in-class online experiences tailored to diverse products and customer base is critical to this role.

The Director of eCommerce Merchandising will be responsible for on-line content strategy, promotions, and site presence. This leader will leverage high degrees of customer trend data and analytics to inform strategies and to drive continued improvement of customer conversion and experience on the site.

The ideal leader will accomplish all this by working within Merchandising but also cross functionally with Category Managers, Digital and Technology teams to bring this experience to life. Building partnerships is critical to the success of this leader. We are seeking someone who can collaborate throughout the organization to drive results.

  • Develops and leads team in executing product/supplier merchandising strategies related to site navigation layout and content.

  • Monitors and presents data related to customer interactions and conversion.

  • Provides relevant data to category merchants and collaborates to determine appropriate strategies and solutions to drive results.

  • Responsible for launching website promotions in partnership with merchandising and marketing partners.

  • Works with vendors to onboard and improve data for product.

  • Category Site Experience: Provide expertise and guidance on category shopping behaviors & insights; develop calendar of key initiatives including product launches, seasonal trends, and promotions to enable awareness & exposure plans.

  • Promotional Content Strategy: Partner with Digital Business and agency to determine how to best showcase promotional categories and products; combine the art of inspirational photography with the science of category top sellers.

  • Product Content: Partner with vendors to ensure accurate and detailed product content; ensure alignment to industry best practices for key aspects of content (images, bullets & short description).

  • Product Hierarchy Strategy: Maintain best in class hierarchy structure for easy & intuitive findability.

  • Strong analytics and problem-solving skills with a high degree of business acumen.

Qualifications :

What’s needed- Basic Qualifications

  • 10+ years of work experience with 6-8 years relevant product/supplier merchandising experience with 2-4 years of emphasis on e-commerce

  • Expertise in internet marketing, website design/layout and promotions

  • Bachelor’s degree
