Framingham Public Schools Assistant Director of Building & Grounds in Framingham, Massachusetts

The Assistant Director of Buildings and Grounds is generally responsible for overseeing day-to-day operations and all departmental staff, including maintenance, construction, housekeeping, facilities permitting, and general upkeep of all District facilities. They work closely with the Director of Buildings and Grounds to manage long-term capital planning efforts, including new school construction and facilities renovation projects. They also ensure that capital construction projects are within budget and completed successfully. Additionally, the Assistant Director manages facility access activities involving external parties, such as elections, inspections, and energy audits. Their role is vital in maintaining safe and efficient facilities. The Assistant Director of Buildings and Grounds must possess a comprehensive understanding of office procedures, practices, and terminology. They should also have knowledge of departmental operations, construction, maintenance, and security principles. Familiarity with building systems, regulations, and procurement policies is essential. Proficiency in using computer software applications, particularly Google platforms including but not limited to Google Docs, Google Sheets and Google Slides is preferred. Effective communication and the ability to motivate staff are crucial skills for this role. The Assistant Director should be able to provide accurate oral and written instructions and effectively prioritize multiple tasks. Proficiency in operating a personal computer and utilizing various tools and equipment is necessary. Excellent interpersonal skills are essential, as the Assistant Director will regularly interact with school leaders, administrators, colleagues, parents, contractors, and other relevant stakeholders. Problem-solving, leadership, and organizational skills are also important. The Assistant Director is responsible for promoting and communicating the district\'s mission, vision, goals, and values to students, parents, and the community. They must uphold district policies, as well as local, state, and federal laws and regulations. It is important for them to prioritize the safety, security, and welfare of themselves, students, and coworkers.
