Job Description:
Lead the engineering technical, schedule and cost activities of a design team on different types of programs including new product development, production and IR&D programs. Work closely with Program Manager, Engineering groups, Manufacturing department and other departments as necessary to expedite project completion and facilitate the overall operation of project team.
Essential Functions:
Facilitate the overall operation and performance of a project team with minimal oversite from management team
Provides coordination between resource managers/supervisors and Program Managers
Oversees and coordinates the cost/schedule/technical aspects of ongoing engineering projects within the program guidelines set by the Program Manager and customer
Provide technical leadership, acting as a Program Chief Engineer with a Chief System Engineer on issues related to subcontractors, suppliers and customers, supports management of the technical risks and opportunities to optimize program performance
Work with Program Management office team to ensure that all technical contractual obligations or project baseline requirements are fulfilled, reviews program documentation and other work products created by the program team.
Work with Program Manager and Lead Engineers to assure adherence to cost, schedule and quality requirements.
Provide timely status updates with milestones, issues with plan of resolution to management team
Contacts are primarily with Engineers and Program Managers and can act as one of the technical contacts for the customer.
Frequent use and application of technical standards, principles and techniques
Prepare and monitor engineering project team schedules, plans and budgets, competent in understanding and reporting EV metrics.
Estimate resource needs for developmental programs.
Prepare and deliver technical presentations to customers.
Conduct design reviews internally and with the customers.
Coordinate preparation of work breakdown structures, task descriptions, basis of estimates and other resources required to perform cost estimating.
Support new business opportunities related to the product.
Work with the engineering team to adhere to Quality Systems Manual and applicable Standard Work Instructions.
Work with team to make significant improvements of processes, systems, solutions, or products to enhance performance of job area and develop new concepts or standards.
Implements strategic goals established by leadership. Provides input into new products, processes, standards and/or operational plans that will have measurable impact on the achievement of overall function or business results.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer System Engineering, Physics or similar and minimum 9 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 13 years of prior related experience.
7+ Multi-Disciplined Team Leadership Experience
Must have prior experience being a Technical Lead on a developmental or production program
Must have a good working knowledge of Earned Value Management and be competent in understanding and reporting metrics
Must have a good working understanding of ocean engineering, underwater infrastructure and autonomous undersea vehicles and operations
Successful candidates must meet eligibility requirements to access US classified information and obtain a DOD Secret Security Clearance which requires US Citizenship.
Preferred Additional Skills:
Proficient in MS Project and CAD programs
Excellent communicator and well-organized leader
Creative and adaptable thinking and problem solving skills
Experience in working, operating and/or designing autonomous underwater vehicles
Experience working DoD programs
