Sage Therapeutics Scientist II, Translational Science in EMAIL: Workday@Sagerx.com, Massachusetts
General Scope and Summary
SAGE Therapeutics is searching for a creative, resourceful, integrative thinker to play an important role in our Translational Science group. The Translational Scientist is responsible for identifying and validating translatable biomarkers of CNS function (‘target engagement’ or ‘proof of mechanism’ biomarkers) in support of our preclinical and clinical development stage programs. The ideal candidate will be an experienced in vivo physiologist with expertise in electrophysiology, CNS imaging, or other functional measures to interrogate brain circuitry, have a strong background in data analysis, and have an interest in guiding the biomarker strategy for Sage’s growing portfolio of programs.
Roles and Responsibilities
Design, oversee, and interpret in vivo physiology and imaging studies to evaluate the activities of small molecule drug candidates, investigate their mechanism of action, and explore novel hypotheses.
Manage and work with external CROs and academic collaborators responsible for conducting translational biomarker experiments.
Analyze datasets and work with other team members to integrate datasets and support PK/PD modeling activities.
Interact with project teams as a Pharmacology or Translational Science representative to facilitate information flow between the Translational Science function and the team.
Perform diligence to explore novel biomarker approaches and identify vendors and collaborators capable of performing experiments.
Prepare, review, and deliver scientific presentations and reports or manuscripts for internal and external use.
Collaborate effectively with colleagues across departments.
Experience, Education and Specialized Knowledge and Skills
PhD in Neuroscience, Pharmacology, Biomedical Science, or related scientific discipline with 2+ years of relevant experience in the biotech/pharmaceutical industry; MS with at least 6+ years of relevant experience or BS with 8+ years of relevant experience.
Expertise in in vivo physiology or CNS imaging with a demonstrated track record of independent research.
A strong and established scientific background in neuroscience, pharmacology, or related field.
Ability to effectively work with others in a highly collaborative, matrixed research environment.
Excellent scientific and team-directed communication skills required.
Ability to prioritize responsibilities and be comfortable with changing direction and taking risks.
A thorough understanding of PK-PD relationships and drug discovery processes is an asset.
Knowledge of programming languages such as R, Python, and MATLAB would be helpful, but not required.
Ability to conduct independent research and be a team player.
