Duties:

• Assess fit, form and function for new and existing guarding systems for compliance to OSHA standards.

• Repair, modify and upgrade existing machine guarding systems.

• Collaborate with operations/engineering to prioritize the creation, modifications and upgrades to existing guarding systems. Guarding systems may be a combination of physical guarding, electrical interlock’s, procedural systems, visual placards & labeling, etc.

• Track the progress of multiple projects, current status and projected completion. Establish, document, execute and maintain established timelines on multiple concurrent projects.

• Collaborate with operations/engineering to design guarding concepts in guarding systems.

• Research, identify and generate purchase component bills of materials.

• Maintain project records of work performed on guarding systems.

• Fabricate, install and test guarding systems. Fabrication installation will require the ability to machine components, sheet metal fabrication, welding and assembly operations.

• Participate in accident and near miss investigations.

• Maintain and grow knowledge base on safety systems, new technology, updated OSHA regulations in support of equipment guarding.

• Provide input regarding short and long-term vision for guarding and guarding strategies within the organization.

• Climate: Demanding, fast-paced position resulting from deadline pressures, simultaneous competing demands and changing priorities. Requirements: Use of complicated drawings, specifications, charts, tables, and a variety of precision measuring instruments, tool room machines and equipment.

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills (operators, operations team, engineering, procurement, etc.).

• Strong understanding of electrical diagrams wiring and safe electrical wiring practices.

• Proficient use of machine shop equipment including lathe, vertical mill, welding, and carpentry to fabricate new/improved machine guards.

• Knowledge of OSHA machine guarding requirements and compliance to standards.

• Candidate must be a self-starter, organized and motivated to complete tasks effectively and efficiently.

• Strong critical thinking, with the ability to adhere to safety requirements while also balancing the feasibility and functionality/ease-of-use for guarding/safety systems.

• Strong computer and communication skills (AutoCAD, Outlook, Excel, etc.) are required.
