Based in Devens, MA or Morrisville, NC the Senior Planner will:• Manage carrier pricing analysis.• Develop transportation cost benchmark analysis and evaluate network performance to Avantor Fluid Handling KPI’s.• Manage the continuous improvement of critical logistics/transportation databases.• Manage carrier acquisition process from RFP to contract award.• Organize and Prioritize the work and training of Transportation Planners.
MAJOR JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (List in order of importance)
Defines baseline logistics transportation cost benchmarks. Validate transportation’s KPI’s.
Manage transportation modeling projects utilizing current modeling software packages or data base creation. Using lane analysis, mode analysis, dedicated route analysis and price analysis, recommend final carrier award.
Manage carrier acquisition process from RFP to contract award.
Develop and execute continuous improvement projects for transportation databases as well as reports for the operations group and field distribution.
Direct the acquisition, collection, and maintenance of pertinent data for transportation analysis and modeling.
Identify transportation market trends and recommend transportation negotiation strategies.
Provide design and operational solutions in areas of transportation network analysis and distribution analysis. Select solution that meets operations and customer requirements and AFH KPI’s.
Evaluate carrier performance and subsequently direct system improvements in our proprietary rating and routing software.
Performs on- going assessment of transportation network for continuous improvement.
Manage carrier quarterly review process for assigned carriers.
Execute carrier sourcing, negotiations and carrier management.
Implement and maintain inbound/outbound routing guides and supplier compliance program.
Maintains and updates network carrier contracts pre and post implementation.
Manage and Execute any special projects as required.
Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS (Education/Training, Experience and Certifications)
Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Transportation Management, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Operations Management, or equivalent experience.
Six+ years transportation and logistics experience or equivalent third-party logistics or direct transportation experience
Six+ experience in logistics and transportation analysis
Transportation routing software (TMS) knowledge/ experience (IE: Epicor; SAP I2; Red Prairie; Manugistics; CAPS; Connect Ship software)
Proficiency in spreadsheet and database software
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES (Those necessary to perform the job competently)

ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL EFFORT (Under Typical Positions)
Typically works in an office environment with adequate lighting and ventilation and a normal range of temperature and noise level.
Work assignments are diversified. Examples of past precedent are used to resolve work problems. New alternatives may be developed to resolve problems.
A frequent volume of work and deadlines impose strain on routine basis.
Minimal physical effort is required. Work is mostly sedentary but does require walking, standing, bending, reaching, lifting or carrying objects that typically weigh less than 10 lbs.
