A Scientist – glycan, glycopeptide, and glycoprotein analysis position is available in the Process Development-Analytical organization at the Bristol-Myers Squibb site in Devens, MA. The primary responsibility of this role is to support glycan characterization capability for biological process development. This role requires individual contributions and leadership in development, qualification and application of LC-MS technology for biologics glycosylation characterization. Experience trouble shooting and developing methods on a range of analytical platforms is a plus.

The qualified individual will:

  • Lead glycan analysis for therapeutic proteins including monoclonal antibody, bispecific antibody, trispecific antibody, fusion protein, etc. using liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry (LC-MS and LC-MS/MS)

  • Characterization and identification of protein sequence and post translational modifications, which include but not limited to deamidation, glycosylation, oxidation, disulfide bond scrambling using LC/MS and LC-MS/MS

  • Collaborate with process development scientists, method development scientists and analytical and science technology team to provide expertise in glycan analysis and mass spectrometry analysis to support late stage product development

  • Operate and maintain mass spectrometry instruments

  • Responsible to present data internally and externally

  • Author technical reports and external publications, co-author and review regulatory filings

  • Understand and apply advanced scientific principles, theories, concepts, and practices to process and analytical development

  • Keep current with scientific knowledge in areas of expertise.

Qualifications:

  • Strong background in carbohydrate and protein analytical chemistry using mass spectrometry.

  • Expertise and demonstrated track record in mass spectrometry of glycan and protein analysis is required.

  • Experience with HCP proteomics analysis and metabolomics analysis is a plus.

  • In-depth knowledge and hands-on experience with glycan analysis from the released, intact/reduced, and glycopeptide level is required.

  • In-depth knowledge and hands-on experience with bottom up mass spectrometry methodology including hardware and software.

  • Sound knowledge of other separation techniques, such as chromatographic separations in RP, SEC and CEX modes, capillary electrophoretic techniques (CE and iCE etc).

  • Proficient with standard computer applications, including advanced software for LC and MS data analysis. Knowledge of Protein Metrics data analysis software is a plus.

  • Ability to work well both independently and in a team environment.

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and leadership skills working in a highly interactive matrix team.

  • Design and independent perform studies to trouble shoot issues encountered during process development and qualifications.

Education Experience:

  • A PhD, MS, or BS in Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biophysics, or related field with at least 0, 5 or 7 years of industrial experiences in relevant fields, respectively. Experience with mass spectrometry and glycan analysis is required.
