Position Summary

The Associate Director, Biologics Development Lab Operations has accountability over general operations and capital projects for the Biologics Development (BD) labs and facilities located in New Brunswick NJ, Summit NJ, and Devens MA. This role interfaces with partners including facilities, engineering, IT, finance, BD business operations, and PD operations, and ensures alignment and collaboration with various partnering organizations. This role is responsible for strategic planning while maintaining lab/facility operations for business continuity. This role will be responsible for managing operational and capital budgets, working very closely with the BD leadership team.

Key Responsibilities

Lab Operations & Inventory Management:

  • Maintain the Lab Managers Network to ensure operational efficiency and consistency throughout BD laboratory space

  • Drive operational excellence initiatives in BD laboratories with a focus on optimal utilization of space and assets

  • Oversee procurement, storage, and inventory workflows of laboratory consumables

  • Refine and execute the inventory management strategy to reduce waste and save cost while ensuring business continuity

Equipment & Facilities:

  • Oversee coordination of capital equipment ordering, installation, and facility updates with internal partner organizations and external vendors

  • Support assembly of details and preliminary estimates in relation to facility improvements, area renovations, equipment and process train installations

  • Partner with enabling functions to administrate contracts for lab equipment maintenance and qualification

Capital Project Strategy & Execution:

  • Review capital projects and facility-related initiatives in partnership with key stakeholders, with emphasis on strategic value for the organization

  • Develop and manage capital project scope; assist with defining user requirements, execution phasing and resource plans; provide effective and timely communication and milestone reporting; develop risk mitigation plans and follow project issues through to resolution

  • Interface with BD leadership and end-users to define capital equipment/capital projects; coordinate three-year capital plan estimates with Finance; support annual capital plan submissions, execution, reporting and tracking of changes

Safety:

  • Work with department leadership to drive and administrate safety program in alignment with global initiatives

  • Set and track safety metrics and goals across sites in alignment with campus initiatives

  • Lead department Safety Steering Committee

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Life Science/ Engineering with minimum 10 years of experience in laboratory operations, manufacturing operations, process development, analytical development and/or related degree and field

  • 5 + years of leadership experience, direct people management experience strongly preferred , with the ability to lead and motivate teams and resolve conflicts.

  • Experience in facility management in support of biologics process development, scale-up, tech transfer for manufacturing processes and analytical methods is preferred

  • Proven track record leading and executing projects in a complex and matrixed environment . Anticipates needs and assesses and manages business and organizational risks. Demonstrated innovation, flexibility, open-mindedness, and adaptability to meet objectives in a rapidly changing environment with shifting priorities.

  • Familiarity with managing budgets and finances with a focus on operational excellence

  • Demonstrated service-oriented mindset, ability to influence others, foster a culture of continuous improvement. Capability to share equipment, facility, and operational best practices through effective presentations to internal and external audiences

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to interface with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders at all levels of the organization. "

The starting compensation for this job is a range from $162,000 - $202,000,

plus incentive cash and stock opportunities (based on eligibility). The starting pay rate takes into account characteristics of the job, such as required skills and the geographic location where work is performed.
