Teamwork is Currency at Crane

We're looking for a Material Handler to join the Raw Material/Transportation Department in Dalton, MA. In this position, you will play a critical role with an exciting organization known for innovative currency and banknote technology. This is a first shift position.

The Materials Handler is responsible for the receiving and offloading of chemicals, raw fiber bales, and operating supplies; the moving, storage, and transfer of materials between the warehouses and mills; and the disposal of materials like bale wrap, wires, chemicals, and recycleables. These tasks are performed in support of both the Raw Materials and Transportation operations. Progression to the Grade 2 level is contingent upon successfully qualifying to fill in for the Transportation Dispatcher.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Receives incoming cotton and flax bales. Must perform all ERP inventory control system procedures.

  • Based on written and verbal instructions, selects, transports and loads trucks with wet lap products for shipment

  • Completes needed shipping documents associated with transfers of products to other mill locations thru J.D. Edwards

  • Performs daily inspection of pulp in storage areas, monitoring for mold issues. Provides samples for retesting as required.

  • Performs shipping function for test samples and Central stores, as required

  • Performs inventory cycle counts, as required. Maintain appropriate documentation of inventories and incoming shipments.

  • Hauls and empties trash dumpsters from various areas

  • Willingness to work extended and odd hours when necessary

  • Effectively prioritize workload with little supervision

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

  • Must be able to read, write, keep accurate records, and follow written and verbal procedure/instructions

  • Basic math and unit conversion skills

  • Basic computer skills (knowledge of ERP inventory control systems, desired)

  • Possess and maintain a valid Massachusetts Driver’s License (Class D) with a minimum of three years documented clean driving record and have own transportation to move between locations

  • Ability to safely and effectively operate material handling equipment (forklift, pallet jack, etc.) and maintain the appropriate license or certification requirements

  • Possess the ability to accurately read and interpret gauges and measurement devices

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Willingness to be part of a Process Excellence/Continuous Improvement Team

  • Background in material flow and inventory techniques desired
