WWTP Operator 2024-077 Department - DPW Wastewater Department Description The mission of the Water Pollution Control Facility is to protect the rivers and streams that are in or near the City of Chicopee. About the Job The City of Chicopee\'s Department of Public Works - Wastewater Division is hiring a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator who is skilled with technical work in supervising, participating in the operation and maintenance in all areas of the Public Utilities division of the DPW including but not limited to; pump stations, WWTP treatment plant, combined sewer over flow (CSO) treatment facilities, flood control facilities, and storm water detention facilities Operates sewage treatment, sludge processing, pump stations, combined sewer overflow (CSO) treatment facilities and disposal equipment in accordance with all applicable Local, State, and Federal regulations. Qualifications To be minimally qualified, one must meet the following criteria: One year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience Must obtain a Massachusetts Grade 3 WWTP Operators License within three (3) months of hire. Must obtain Grade 5C WWTP Operator?s License within (6) months of hire (Probationary Period). Must possess a valid Massachusetts Class D Driver?s License required. Licenses (If Applicable) MA Class D License Required, MA Grade 3 WWTP Operator\'s License Required within (3) months, Obtain Grade 5C WWTP Operator\'s within (6) months. Essential Duties Include Monitors control panels and adjust valves and gates manually or by remote control to regulate flow of sewage and ensure compliance with the Cities NPDES permit. Starts and stops pumps, engines, and generators to control flow of raw sewage through unit processes such as filtering, settling, aeration, chlorination, screening, pumping, and sludge processing for disposal. Gather information, update, input to computerized databases, and review for optimization of operations and maintenance records. This includes but not limited to; daily operator readings, laboratory results, sludge production, odor control, chemical usages, field results, operator observations, chemical and equipment invento1y, equipment history, equipment repair and preventative maintenance. Maintain operator\'s license according to MA DEP requirements. Fill in for Senior Operator when required. Provide chemical spill response for Public Utilities department, both city wide and for the Public Utilities division facilities. Adhere to waste oil control requirements. Works with the Waste Oil manager for this department to be sure all new and used oil is used, stored, and disposed of in accordance with WPC policies, state, local and federal requirements. Operate hand, power tools, and machinery in the fabrication, maintenance, repair, and alteration of a wide variety of specialized wastewater plant collection, conveying and treatment equipment. Assists in the repairs and overhauls such machinery and equipment as pumps blowers, compressors, mixers, bar screens, aerators, valves, engines, motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, and production machines, sludge and scum collectors and all other related equipment. Site inspections of operations. Repair of equipment, preventative maintenance, and scheduling and participation of daily, weekly, quarterly, and annual maintenance. Cleaning, painting, building and grounds maintenance. Work with and oversee contractors in all work related to the Public Utilities subdivisions. Work closely with other DPW and City departments. Salary/Compensation Employment Status: UFCW Laborers Union, Non-Exempt; Full-Time Salary: Grade 10L, Step 05 - Starting at \$21.86 per hour Expected Hours of Work This is a Full-Time, 40-hour per week position, with a schedule of 2:00 PM -- 12:00 AM, Monday - Thursday
