City of Chicopee - Council of Aging Substitute Transportation Coordinator Position Title: Substitute Transportation Coordinator Department: Council on Aging Employment Status: Non-Exempt; Part-Time Salary: Non-Union, Grade 1, Step 9 | Starting at $14.57 per hour. Licenses/Certifications: Massachusetts Driver?s License SUMMARY The City of Chicopee?s Council on Aging is hiring a Substitute Transportation Coordinator who will work per diem shift coverage when the Transportation Coordinator is on vacation, taking a personal day, or is out sick. The person will take appointments and schedule rides for the four vehicles of the Council on Aging. The substitute will be able to work with the drivers to ensure that all elders receive prompt pick up and return. ESSENTIAL DUTIES INCLUDE - Oversee the operation of the Council on Aging vehicles which includes scheduling requests; preparing the driver?s daily route; operation of a two-way radio and cellular telephone. - Resolve all problems, which arise including giving driver?s directions and assistance. - Account for safety of the elder when there is a no show for a ride by contacting the appointment site, family, and neighbors and when necessary, the police. - Keep data on services provided as well as volunteer driver?s hours. Oversees data entry into computer. - If necessary, answer senior center telephone and provide direct information and referral services to persons visiting the center. - If necessary, open the senior center and deactivates the alarm. - Other duties as assigned by the director. - Supervises 1 employee and any volunteer drivers, only if appropriate. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization?s policies and applicable laws. QUALIFICATIONS To be minimally qualified for this position, one must meet the following criteria: - High School Diploma or Equivalent - 1-3 months related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education & experience - Experience with volunteers and/or elders preferred - Valid Massachusetts Driver's License SCHEDULE & COMPENSATION The City of Chicopee provides its employees (contingent upon employment status) with a robust benefits package which include: Sick-Time, Life Insurance, Holiday Pay, Personal Time, Vacation Time, Retirement Saving Plans, Employee Discounts, and more. This is a per diem position, hours vary based on needs of COA. This role is classified as Non-Union Grade 1, Step 9, with a minimum starting pay of $14.57 per hour, with periodic step and pay increases upon continuous completion of employment with the City of Chicopee.
