What R & D Engineering contributes to Cardinal Health

Research and Development Engineering is responsible for developing and implementing new products through adherence to established design control processes and good engineering and documentation practices.

The Senior R&D Engineer will support Sustainable Technologies Reprocessing in New Product Development to expand the current reprocessing portfolio, and maintenance of business activities for legacy products.


Minimum of a BS in Mechanical or Biomedical Engineering, or equivalent experience in a related field required

Minimum of 2+ years of related professional work experience

Ability to work independently and as a member of a team

Experienced in New Product Development with tangible results

Knowledge of Medical Device Design Controls

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Strong statistical analysis and/or six sigma experience

Developed leadership, problem solving, decision making, and presentation skills


What is expected of you and others at this level:

  • Works on projects of moderate scope and complexity: Core team member for large scale projects and/or project lead for small scale projects
  • Performs research on products to determine suitability for reprocessing
  • Performs reverse engineering of OEM products to determine key product performance criteria
  • Develops product performance specifications, test methods, and validation of test methods
  • Provides regular updates on project status and budgetary spending
  • Supports existing and new commitments for R&D led projects through focused execution, transparent communication, and streamlined processes
  • Supports maintenance of business through DHF maintenance, Standards assessments, on-going compliance improvements, and support for business-critical interruptions
  • Provides input on budget, resources, and timing considerations for projects
  • Supports cross functional partners (Marketing, DQE, RA, Manufacturing, etc,) as needed
  • Ensures customer trust with quality, compliance, and safety
  • Enhances culture via focus and action to drive diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Applies working knowledge in the application of concepts, principles, and technical capabilities to perform varied tasks
  • Identifies possible solutions to a variety of technical problems and takes actions to resolve
  • Applies judgment within defined parameters
  • Receives general guidance may receive more detailed instruction on new projects
  • Work reviewed for sound reasoning and accuracy
  • Typically, less than 25% travel required
