BRIEF POSITION SUMMARY:

This position is for a Manual Cutter Grinder. Regrind, recondition, and/or manufacture cutting tools per instructions DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Displays or posses the ability to create/read blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work piece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements, with or without the assistance of a Lead or Senior Machinist.

  • Measures, marks, and scribes dimensions and reference points on material or work piece as guides for subsequent machining.

  • Capable of selecting, aligning, and securing hold fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines such as mills, lathes, jig borers, grinders, and shapers.

  • Displays or posses the ability of calculating and setting controls to regulate machining factors, such as speed, speed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut, or enters commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media with or without the assistance of a Lead or Senior Machinist.

  • Displayed and is capable of starting and observing machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, and adjusts machine controls or control media as required.

  • Verifies/inspects conformance of finished work piece to specifications using precision instruments.

  • Displayed and is capable of setting up and operate machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data.

  • Displayed and has capability of fitting and assembling parts into complete assembly, using jigs, fixtures, surface plate, surface table, hand tools, and power tools with or without the assistance of a Lead or Senior Machinist.

  • Verifies dimensions and alignment of assembly using measuring instruments such as micrometers, height gauges, and gauge blocks.

  • Fosters the MSC Culture in the department and throughout the company to ensure unity of purpose and fulfillment of MSC’s mission.

  • Ensures that safety rules and guidelines are followed at all times.

  • Participates in special projects and performs additional duties as required.

    EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Diploma or the equivalent is required.

  • Minimum of at least 2+ years Machine shop experience is required.

    SKILLS:

  • Basic knowledge of blueprints and their interpretation is required.

  • Ability to use test and measuring equipment and perform basic mathematical calculations as well as set-up and operate various machine tools is required.

  • Experience in flat or round grinding and in brazing and welding is required.

  • Good interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills are also required.

    OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time is required.

  • Ability to lift 75 pounds occasionally and 50 pounds regularly is required.

Compensation starting at $45000 - $65000 depending on experience.

The salary range represented is based on similar roles in comparable industries, and the cost of labor in respective cities. Actual compensation is based on the candidate’s relevant experience, education requirements and peer pay equity. The Company reserves the right to modify the range as market conditions change.
