State Garden Inc PIT Operator II in Chelsea, Massachusetts
Job Summary The PIT Operator II is certified to safely operate fork trucks, electric pallet jacks, and other powered industrial trucks to pick orders, secure and prepare materials to safely load and unload trailers, put away products, transfer products, etc. This position is responsible for assisting to verify inventory and/or perform cycle counts, etc. This role will rotate working in both a State Garden warehouse as well as travel to customer warehouse location/s with a CDL A driver to offload goods on the customer receiving dock. Driver Helper Duties: Travels with CDL driver in a tractor trailer to off-site customer receiving location/s. Performs pre-use visual inspection of all equipment to be used at the customer site. Secures trailer with chocks and follows site trailer securing procedure prior to opening the door of the trailer to be unloaded. Safely and efficiently unloads pallets of goods at customer docks with the use of customer forklift, pallet jack or hand pallet jack material equipment; May load items for backhaul. Adheres to customer distribution center and State Garden, Inc. policies and procedures. Maintains a safe and orderly work environment; Respectfully communicates with customers to resolve issues. Reports anomalies when liaising with State Garden staff and logistics team. May utilize customer RFID system. Compiles accurate delivery records and reports; Obtains appropriate signatures and, or receipts. May assist CDL driver as a spotter in backing situations. PIT Operation Duties: Performs pre-use inspections of powered industrial trucks Inspects trailers, pallets, trucks, product, proper temperature when necessary and checks for damaged products and/or goods. Safely loads and unloads incoming and outgoing trucks with the use of fork trucks, electric pallet jacks, load bars and/or load straps properly securing the load for transportation. May prepare and secure a powered industrial truck for transport to another building. Utilizes glad locks and chock blocks to secure trucks while they are unloaded and/or loaded to prevent pre-mature trailer movement and / or early truck departure. Verifies accuracy of quantities of incoming deliveries with the use of a BOL (Bill of Lading) Inspects incoming shipments for quality defects including products, pallets, outside packaging material, and trailer damage. Reports defects to Supervisor or Quality Assurance Department. Puts away and moves product to and from bins and locations. Manages and reports any malfunctions, defects, or damages to the Supervisor (and sometimes Quality Assurance). Works with Supervisors to ensure defective equipment is properly locked out and tagged out and/or red tagged. Verifies inventory and/or performs cycle counts with other team members; Reports any shipment or inventory deviations to Supervisor. Adheres to all safety regulations as required by the position and the company?s safety policies. Adheres to all current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMPs) per the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Follows all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) regarding warehousing processes, tasks, and protocols. Uses hand-held scanners to verify UPC codes and to scan inventory into the correct trailer location. Verifies temperature of trailers with hand-held laser thermometer prior to loading; Completes trailer inspection form and submits document to Quality Assurance; Verifies set point of trailer; Communicates with truck driver if new trailer is needed. Inspects trailers for cleanliness; If debris found, trailer is swept out; Uses waste receptacles in the dock space to collect debris from trailers; Communicates with truck driver if new trailer is needed due to cleanliness. Ensures all actions are taken to prevent food from being contaminated. May safely utilize wrapping equipment to wrap pallets. Forklift and pallet jack certification required
