Job Summary

AECOM has an exciting opportunity for an Environmental Engineer to join our Remediation team in either of our offices in Chelmsford or Boston. You will work with a diverse team of technical leaders across a broad range of practice areas delivering remediation consulting services to our key clients.

A BS or MS degree in Engineering (Environmental, Chemical, Civil, or related field) and minimum of 2 years of experience in the environmental remediation field. The position includes work on environmental (soil or groundwater) remediation system evaluation, design, and monitoring, and/or in the evaluation and design of wastewater and air pollution control systems. Projects may include designing and undertaking desk studies, site investigations, risk assessments and remediation solutions including data procurement and analysis, drawing and specification development, factual and interpretative report writing. Candidate must be able to work as part of a project team comprised of AECOM staff and subcontractors. Flexibility to work on a multitude of diverse projects, a positive attitude, willingness to mentor junior staff, and commitment to workplace health and safety are imperative.

General duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • To perform specific and limited portions of a broader assignment of an experienced engineer.

  • To gather and correlate basic engineering data using established and well-defined procedures

  • To work on detailed or routine engineering assignments involving calculations and relatively simple tests

  • To propose approaches to solve new problems encountered

  • To coordinate field service subcontractors and supervise ground investigation and remediation works.

  • To collect and evaluate soil and groundwater samples/data during assessment and remedial action activities at various sites.

  • To ensure that health and safety issues are addressed throughout the life of a project.

Specific tasks may include but are not limited to:

  • Environmental sampling and options evaluations and problem definition

  • Development of site layouts, grading plans, PFDs, & P&IDs

  • Equipment specifications, construction oversight, system troubleshooting and optimization

  • Report preparation, other related tasks.

  • Preparing conceptual and detailed design packages (construction drawings and technical specifications)

  • Supporting calculations and work plans in support of environmental remediation system designs.

  • The position involves local travel to project sites to collect samples, oversee remediation construction contractors, gather information and present results of study and design work.

Minimum Requirements

  • BA/BS degree in Engineering (Environmental, Chemical, Civil, or related field) and;

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in the environmental remediation field.

  • Valid Driver's license

  • Due to the nature of the work, US Citizenship is required

Preferred Qualifications

  • MS degree in Engineering (Environmental, Chemical, Civil, or related field) and minimum of 2 years of experience in the environmental remediation field.

  • Knowledge in practical application of engineering concepts, basic chemistry, working knowledge of MS Office Applications, and Autocad and or GIS proficiency a plus

  • Solid attention to detail and thorough approach to work with ability to understand/comply with the big picture/goals of a project

  • Possess strong logic skills

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills, comfortable meeting with clients, colleagues and sub-contractors alike.

  • Flexible with working hours and locations, frequent travel within 1 – 2 hour drive of home office, and occasionally further.

  • Excellent written and verbal skills (in English); fluency in other languages is an advantage.

  • Strong quality and time management.
