The Philanthropy Communications Associate Director supports strategic messaging and content creation in support of BILH’s comprehensive fundraising efforts and strives to elevate the image and reputation of BILH and its member hospitals to drive revenue-generating philanthropy and donor engagement across the system. The AD drafts compelling proposals and reports focused on high-level funding priorities to encourage high-impact gifts to the institution, as well as other donor-facing communications, proposals, and philanthropy content. He/she develops content and organizes a strategic funding opportunity catalog that includes the identification and management of high-priority needs within the capital campaign such as: compelling business needs, budget-relieving opportunities from capital and operating budget planning processes, and unique opportunities driven by donor interest. He/she will analyze complex scientific and financial documents to create fundraising opportunities and provide stewardship reports and promote available needs throughout BILH Philanthropy, ensuring that concepts supporting institutional priorities are kept up to date in the content library and accessible to frontline staff, as well as support the development of content to educate frontline staff and donors around key funding priorities and opportunities that align to top fundraising priorities.

The AD maintains close and collaborative working relationships with system and hospital leadership, philanthropy leadership, department administrators, chiefs, faculty, board members and staff in support of philanthropic objectives.

The Philanthropy Communications Associate Director:

• Supports the development of messaging platforms to articulate the philanthropic goals of BILH and its member hospitals and ensures alignment with BILH brand messaging in all areas

• Drafts key funding opportunity descriptions, proposals, leadership messaging, stewardship reports, solicitations, and a broad range of system-wide philanthropy content to support transformational philanthropic gifts with global reach and relevance.

• Is responsible for the accuracy and quality of content in the above areas, and supports the content review processes throughout the office of philanthropy to maintain the integrity and accuracy of donor facing communications.

Job Description:

Essential Duties & Responsibilities including but not limited to:

• Write proposals, campaign cases for support, and other key content on an as-needed basis.

• Partner with major and principal gift officers on customized funding opportunities, and serve as a key resource for any budget-related or financial proposal elements. Work with gift officers and development leadership to create financial models for proposals including endowments and budgets, and review reports for financial accuracy.

• Support the writing and development of donor stewardship reports and updates to engage and foster donors. Develop and manage a system in conjunction with the Donor Relations team to prioritize, prepare, send and track stewardship reports. Draft memoranda of understanding to clarify donor intent, as well as any expectations for the principal investigator on the gift.

• Manage catalog of high-priority funding opportunities for BILH and affiliated institutions, and track the status of all proposed funding needs.

• Contribute to the ‘content library’ and be responsible for the storage and dissemination of content to colleagues as appropriate. Ensure content is up to date, accurate, and accessible.

• Manage funding opportunity request process to ensure that all proposed gifts are implementable, aligned with faculty needs, and in the best strategic interest of the institution.

• Create content and opportunities to educate and train principal and major gifts officers about available funding needs, processes, and standards around funding levels and best practices.

• Act as liaison to principal investigators, doctors, and institutional leadership for programs in need of philanthropic support.

• In collaboration with colleagues from the Donor Relations, Department of Finance and the Department of Facilities Planning and Engineering, develop a system to identify and promote opportunities for donor support that align with institutional priorities and capital project needs.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor’s degree required.

Licensure, Certification & Registration: N/A

Experience: 5+ years related work experience required.

Strong interpersonal skills. Ability to travel, occasional evening and weekend work. Ability to adjust to other needs of the department.

Advanced skills with Microsoft applications and other web- based applications. May produce complex documents, perform analysis and maintain databases.

Preferred Qualifications & Skills:

Knowledge of the utilization of information systems to support fundraising activities. Demonstrated ability to prioritize and coordinate a large number of projects simultaneously with minimum supervision.

Proven ability to raise funds for complex capital campaigns.
