VISITOR SERVICES ASSOCIATE, Open Space Programming (2 openings), to serve as a front-line MIT representative--in collaboration with MIT Admissions colleagues--at the new MIT Welcome Center in Kendall Square, staffing the desk and helping visitors and local community members navigate campus and find a wide range of basic information about MIT. Will develop and maintain working knowledge of MIT’s campus and destinations; open space programs and departmental events; information about self-guided/structured campus tours; and general knowledge of the local Kendall Square, Cambridge, and Boston areas. Will also provide administrative support for multiple programs and projects by helping to prepare for open space programming events, including promoting events/programs on social media and the department’s website; complete the paperwork necessary to enable the success of the department; represent Open Space Programming when attending high-level meetings; research, analyze, and create proposals on the potential implementation of new public/community programming; work with the team on the planning and logistics for upcoming events and coordinate event support services (e.g., catering, A/V, custodial help, etc.) with appropriate providers; and handle other duties and special projects as assigned.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: high school diploma or its equivalent; at least three years of related experience; excellent customer service, organizational, and communication skills; good judgment and tact; attention to detail and accuracy; flexibility; and comfort working on multiple tasks simultaneously with minimal supervision. Seek someone who enjoys interacting with a wide variety of people, including prospective students and their families and the general public. PREFERRED: strong spoken English and Spanish and/or Chinese language skills, familiarity with MIT and/or Cambridge. Job #19499-5 There are two schedules available (see below). Schedule A: Monday through Wednesday - 11:30 A.M. to 6:30 P.M., Saturday and Sunday - 9:30 A.M. to 4:30 P.M. Schedule B: Wednesday through Friday - 11:30 A.M. to 6:30 P.M., Saturday and Sunday - 10:30 A.M. to 5:30 P.M. The hourly range for this position is $22.00 - $27.00
