TECHNICAL ASSOCIATE I, Koch Institute for Integrative Cancer Research-Langer Lab (3 openings), to join a multidisciplinary team developing injectable drug delivery systems for vaccines and small molecule therapeutics. The project will focus on developing drug delivery materials for the sustained or pulsatile release of small molecule drugs or vaccines. Responsibilities will include fabricating drug or vaccine delivery materials, running in vitro release kinetics and biological assays (e.g., ELISA), conducting animal studies, and reporting to direct supervisor in a timely manner; training and coordinating the work with research support associates, students, employees, and/or temporary staff; ensuring that others comply with established standards, regulations, and laboratory procedures; maintaining lab instruments; and training new users in equipment operation.
REQUIRED: B.S./B.A. in biological sciences, material science, engineering, or other relevant field; experience with drug delivery, controlled release, biomaterials, chemistry, protein stability, molecular biology, immunology, and/or virology; two years’ specialized lab experience (which may include experience gained as an undergraduate); experience working with and maintaining technical instruments/equipment; comfort summarizing and reporting results to researchers; demonstrated commitment to exceeding quality standards and producing accurate, high-quality work; strong organizational, time-management, problem-solving, and communication skills; practiced documentation skills; awareness of basic safety issues and ability to follow safety procedures and maintain a safe work environment; and willingness to learn new tools and techniques. Must be able to learn quickly; work independently and as part of a team; multitask; and plan, organize, and coordinate work assignment/experiments simultaneously. PREFERRED: M.S. in biotechnology, material science, engineering, or a relevant field; relevant experience with micromolding techniques, nanoparticle synthesis, and/or microneedle fabrication; and experience with characterizing drug delivery materials, biological assays, and working with animals.
