In this role, you have the opportunity to:
Challenges yourself to use your engineering expertise to model, design and implement some of the world’s most innovative medical and high-precision products. Your contributions can range from early customer contacts, project definition and concept creation to Mechatronics Design of new products or modifications to existing products. As the Senior Systems Engineer, you will support Philips businesses based in the US, and report directly into the Philips Engineering Solutions US Hub Site Manager in Cambridge, Massachusetts. You will also report dotted-line into the Mechatronics Department based in Eindhoven, The Netherlands in order to benefit from being part of a much larger, similarly skilled and like-minded team.
You are responsible for:
Overseeing the mechatronic solutions in major projects, which have a mid to long-term character, are complex, and can be divided in several sub-projects for the creation of subsystems.
Being involved within the software and electronic hardware designs.
Using your skills, inventiveness and curiosity to combine novel technology with user insight to lead the team in designing parts and assemblies for new medical innovations;
Making principle choices for the product designs, subsystems and interfaces;
You are responsible for the overall manufacturability, interfacing and introduction of new technology and methods in manufacturing sites.
Leading internal and external design (sub-)teams and work with external suppliers.
Working closely with the commercial department to truly understand the customer’s technologic challenges i.o to offer projects, tailored services & technical support.

But we serve external business too, with the aim to cross-train diversely capable teams and constantly develop competence that are state of art. We are active in product as well as sub-system design, prototyping and testing. You will be working together in multi-disciplinary teams of highly skilled technical experts from both Philips Engineering Solutions and its customers.
To succeed in this role, you should have the following skills and experience:
A MSc degree mechanical or mechatronics engineering
A minimum of 10 years of professional experience in mechanical product, medical preferred
Experience with mechatronic precision equipment development preferred
Experience with digitalization of development; methods, tools and global collaboration
Interested to apply Model Based System Engineering, AI and Machine Learning in the Mechatronics context
Proven proficiency in 3D CAD, preferably Creo (Pro-ENGINEER) or NX Unigraphics. Must be recent practitioner
Proven proficiency with FEM tools, preferably ANSYS. Must be recent practitioner
Special emphasis on a demonstrated Mechatronics background in combining mechanical with system engineering, precision tooling, fiber optics/routing and electronic packaging.
Robust knowledge of design controls and risk management standards.
Broad technical knowledge and experience with bringing medical products to the market
Preferably experience with development of medical products (IEC 60601) and healthcare regulatory aspects (ISO13485, FDA)
Experience in coaching of designers or design teams
Experience in translating customer needs into technical requirements and then clearly defining the complete mechatronic needs to project members
Good understanding of testing critical to quality and regulatory requirements
Mature skills in scoping, requirement clarification, and development effort estimation
Proven leadership skills, acting as lead engineer, performing work breakdown / divide work & delegation / (final) review.
Team player and excellent communicator, especially with virtual teams
Strong organizing, planning, monitoring, execution skills (supplier related)
Proficient in English; both in written and spoken language Travel 25%
