Under the direction of the EHS Manager, the Senior EHS Specialist is responsible for planning and executing projects and programs designed to ensure the achievement of the company’s goals relative to EHS outcomes. They will be involved with developing, implementing and maintaining all components of the EHS program vital to remain in compliance with federal, state, and local EHS&S regulations, as well as Johnson & Johnson EHS Standards. This role will have a strong focus on risk assessments and biological safety within the R&D laboratories and support operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement operational procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory and corporate standards and to achieve sustainability goals.

  • Compile and report monthly, quarterly, and annual EHS metrics.

  • Perform routine assessments based on J&J EHS standards to identify program specific deficiencies and areas of risk.

  • Develop, implement, and deliver EHS training for assigned EHS topics, ensuring key risk and regulatory requirements are addressed for appropriate audiences, including new hires.

  • Support and facilitate site EHS committees/teams to ensure implementation of the EHS program.

  • Prepare audit reports/corrective action plans and collaborate with local management to develop and implement corrective and preventative actions to address EHS program deficiencies, ensure EHS regulatory compliance, and to support the Janssen and J&J EHS objectives.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s or equivalent University Degree required; focused degree in EHS, Occupational Safety, or Safety or Industrial Hygiene preferred

Experience and Skills:

Required:

  • Minimum four (4) years of relevant work experience

  • Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local EHS regulations (e.g., NIH, CDC, OSHA, EPA, MA DEP, MA DPH) and other applicable regulations

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, as well as effective written and verbal communication skills

  • Strong organizational and time management skills to generate all required reports & record keeping systems in a timely manner

  • Proven decision making and problem-solving skills, with the ability to quickly interpret complex regulatory issues and provide recommended course of action

  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite, including demonstrated ability to generate presentations, spreadsheets, graphs, and reports

Preferred:

  • Certifications in RBP/CBSP, CSP, CIH, and/or CHMM

  • Experience in an R&D environment

Other:

  • Requires up to 10% occasional domestic travel to local sites
