Aurora is seeking an experienced Senior Proposal Lead to provide on-site proposal leadership and support at the Manassas, VA location (AVA) to manage smaller to medium sized proposals and serve as volume lead for larger and more complex business pursuits

Aurora is seeking an experienced Senior Proposal Lead to provide on-site proposal leadership and support at the Manassas, VA location (AVA) to manage smaller to medium sized proposals and serve as volume lead for larger and more complex business pursuits and proposals across all Aurora sites. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced, quick-turnaround, Team-based work environment and have the ability to handle multiple proposals -- meeting deadlines with a high level of skill, utilizing a broad range of proposal development techniques and approaches.

Minimum Requirements

  • B.S. and preferably M.S. in one of the following engineering degrees:

  • Aerospace Engineering

  • Systems Engineering

  • Computer Sciences

  • Manufacturing

  • Relevant Discipline

  • Experience in aerospace industry as a proposal professional for at least 10 years with diversity of experience in large corporate aerospace or technology-driven organizations as well as in small business environments and cultures

  • Experience with DOD, DARPA, AFRL and NASA research & development type acquisitions and proposals

  • Working knowledge of the FAR, DFAR and various types of acquisition models

  • Working knowledge of UAS or autonomous vehicles and potential customers

  • Demonstrated ability to influence others, from staff to senior leaders through a strong presence, thoughtful challenges, and use of sound judgment

  • Strong interpersonal and political skills, including aptitude for building relationships, understanding team dynamics, taking initiative, and solving problems

  • Keen listener, with the ability to quickly grasp ideas to be reflected in written documents and presentations and the ability to work with grace and efficiency in a demanding, deadline-driven environment

  • Team-oriented with a proven ability to manage multiple proposals at once with an outstanding ability to work with people at all levels, including senior executives

  • Demonstrated initiative and problem-solving ability with attention to detail and exceptional follow-up skills and the ability to analyze information and make sound observations and make recommendations quickly

  • Training in formal capture/proposal methodologies with training from:

  • Association of Record for Bid, Proposal, Business Development, Capture and Graphics Professionals (APMP) Certification (Practitioner or Professional) Shipley BD Certificate (3 Core courses plus 4 Units)

  • SM&A courses (Opportunity Capture, Proposal Development, Competitive Assessment and Price-to-Win)

  • Or equivalent training or experience in aerospace industry as a proposal professional (proposal manager, volume manager) for at least 10 years

  • Accustomed to adjusting to shifting priorities, stringent deadlines, last minute requirements, and occasional evening/weekend hours to accomplish tasks within non-negotiable client deadlines.

  • Comprehensive knowledge in the use and application of MS PowerPoint, MS Word and PDF and other applications used for the development, integration and compiling proposal documentation.

  • Ability to learn how to use SAP and other proposal related management tools to help allocate and track Bid and Proposal (B&P) funding and other proposal related metrics and assist in incorporating lessons learned.

  • Ability to coach, mentor and advise proposal authors and content contributors.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work extended hours on occasion due to customer deadlines.
