The Translational Sciences Group in Sanofi strives to generate scientific knowledge that translates into transformative therapies for patients with unmet medical needs. Translational Sciences is building a world-class Proteomics & Metabolomics team that is passionate to contribute to the discovery and development of novel therapeutics for patients. Translational Sciences Proteomics & Metabolomics team is seeking highly motivated Proteomics Senior Principal Scientist/Lab Head to join the multidisciplinary team and lead the mass spec-based proteomics Lab focusing on the development and application of proteomic approaches to disease mechanism and biomarker discovery in key therapy areas interesting to Sanofi. The successful candidate will implement novel quantitative discovery proteomic strategies (DDA, DIA and/or TMT based) for the identification of novel therapeutic targets, the discovery of predictive biomarkers for patients’ stratification, and analysis of molecular data to assess drug discovery and development. The successful candidate will apply the advanced proteomic approaches on a diverse set of biological samples to generate datasets to develop actionable hypotheses. The successful candidate would have the ability to learn and acquire/implement new techniques and methodologies. The successful candidate would have key strengths in data integration strategies as key to building and progressing pipeline for patients. This exciting role will afford talented proteomics senior principal scientists the opportunity to translate their data-generation and analytical abilities into novel actionable hypotheses. This is also a unique growth opportunity for an enthusiastic self-starter that will contribute to a wide and diverse range of projects both within Sanofi and to the external scientific collaboration at large.
This role will involve supervising and mentoring a small group of MS-focused scientists. The expectation for this role is also to be 60-70% laboratory based, providing support for multiple projects and their advancement and be able to perform innovative MS application and method development.
The individual will be responsible for aspects of project planning, method development, sample preparation, data acquisition and bioinformatics.
Develop a deep understanding of project needs through close interaction with the project teams. Provide solutions to scientific challenges that are highly innovative and ingenious.
Collaborate with academic and industrial partners on incubating emerging technology.
Responsibilities also include providing project support, effectively communicating project progress, writing technical summaries, preparing presentations, and participating in publication.
PhD degree in Proteomics, Biochemistry or other related life science disciplines with minimum 5-8 years of working experience is required.
Deep expertise in mass spectrometry-based quantitative discovery proteomics workflows (DDA, DIA and TMT based) and followed proteomic data processing/analysis is essential. Experience in targeted proteomics assays is a plus.
Hands on experience with nanoAcQuity UPLC systems and high-performance mass spectrometers (Thermo Eclipse, Exlporis and/or Bruker timsTOF etc) is a must.
Proficiency in bioinformatics approaches including protein quantification, statistical analyses, visualization of “big data” and pathway analysis is required. Proficiency in statistical programming languages such as R or Python is a plus.
Hands-on experience in workflow automation using liquid handling robots (e.g. Thermo KingFisher or Agilent Bravo systems) is a plus; Hands-on experience with methods related to affinity pull-downs for target identification and validation is a plus.
Strong driver and influencer with ability to motivate and drive results through direct reports as well as cross-functional teams across a highly matrixed global organization.
Demonstrate external scientific eminence in the form of peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations.
PhD degree in Proteomics, Biochemistry or other related life science discipline with 8+ years of working experience is preferred.
Deep expertise in mass spectrometry-based quantitative discovery proteomics workflows and followed proteomic data processing/analysis is essential. Experience in targeted proteomics assays and LC-MS/MS to map and characterize post translational modifications would be advantageous.
Ability to develop, benchmark and apply proteomics methodologies with advanced tools & current technologies.
Highly self-motivated, creative and critical thinking to solve complex technical and scientific problems with excellent attention to detail.
Proven track record in relevant management experience in an R&D environment. Supporting long-term career growth of individuals and providing mentorship and training. Ensuring that the team remains motivated and is being technically challenged.
Ability to work independently yet team-oriented and able to build strong relationships in highly collaborative, multidisciplinary teams to effectively drive early drug discovery initiatives.
Manage multiple projects in parallel, communicate clearly and effectively and build open and collaborative relationships is essential. Established publication record.
