Join Takeda as a Principal Imaging Scientist where you will help to establish a new in vivo imaging laboratory and apply advanced multimodal in invo imaging expertise to qualify and implement imaging biomarkers in multiple therapeutic areas.

You will also establish and characterize novel mouse models for in vivo imaging. Design and conduct rodent in vivo imaging experiments using CT, MRI, PET, Optical, and Ultrasound. As part of the Preclinical Imaging team, you will report to the Senior Scientific Director, Preclinical Imaging and work with a variety of therapeutic areas.

How you will contribute:

  • Work closely with other PTS Imaging and therapeutic area scientists to develop problem statements that in vivo imaging technologies can provide critical information to help Takeda project teams make decisions.

  • Within preclinical imaging team, participate in discussions to select imaging modalities and animal models to best answer the biological questions from project teams.

  • Organize meetings to discuss study designs for imaging experiments and seek inputs from collaboration teams to include other experimental readouts if needed, and coordinate with comparative medicine scientists for animal ordering, special housing, and monitoring, etc. Co-author IACUC animal use protocols for imaging studies.

  • Independently design and implement in vivo imaging research projects. Contributes to multiple projects, acting as senior scientific consultant and providing key technical knowledge in in vivo imaging technologies.

  • Generate animal models (tumor, inflammation, and others) for imaging studies. Prepare animals for imaging using various anesthetics including chemical administration (IV, IP, SC, IM) and isoflurane inhalation. Handle radiotracers and imaging contrast agents safely, administer into animals, operate imaging instrument (MRI/PET/CT/Optical/Ultrasound) to scan animals and collect image data. For some experiments, blood samples and tissue necropsy will be collected for ex vivo analysis. Will involve in image and data analysis.

  • Collaborate with other departments, and disciplines, acting as an imaging scientific authority. Summarize data and communicate clearly and precisely with collaborators in project team meetings.

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

  • A minimum of a BS degree in in biology, pharmacy, or related life science with 14+ years of imaging experience, MS degree with 12+ years of experience or PhD with 6+ years of experience is required.

  • Extensive knowledge of multimodality imaging applications to preclinical imaging and extensive hands-on experiences in MRI, CT, PET, Optical and Ultrasound data acquisition are required.

  • Experiences in image analysis using image analysis software such as Amira, VivoQuant, MATLAB, etc. and experiences in developing automation of batch image analysis are required.

  • Experiences in generating animal models in Oncology, neuroscience, and gastrointestinal diseases are highly desirable. Experiences in generation and characterization of genetically engineered mouse model as preferred.

  • In vitro and ex vivo cell biology and molecular biology lab skills including cloning, cell culture, FACS analysis, tissue necropsy, etc. are desirable.

  • At least 5 years' experience in drug discovery and development in the bio-pharmaceutical industry

  • Demonstrated good communication skills and ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic, and collaborative environment.
