Senior Manager, US Communications, Oncology and Immunology

The Senior Manager, US Communications, supports dynamic communications for a growing business unit at Sanofi. The Oncology and Immunology franchises are thriving, and include a wide range of offerings include late-stage compounds in development and marketed products. This position is responsible for supporting a wide range of communication programming and media relations activities, including proactive and reactive communications, social media content and campaigns, internal employee engagement, proactive and reactive communications, and issues management.

This position sits on the North American (NA) Communications team, and reports to the Senior Director, Head of U.S. Communications for Multiple Sclerosis, Oncology and Immunology (MSOI). The Senior Director and Senior Manager both serve as strategic partners to the businesses, and partner with colleagues from External Affairs in the U.S. and global, as needed, across initiatives.


  • Provides communications input and counsel for Oncology and Immunology businesses, providing strategic communications and execution, ultimately ensuring message delivery and driving business results.

  • Operates well in a matrix environment with key interfaces to communications colleagues in the U.S. and Global organizations, as well as Medical, Legal, Regulatory, Marketing, Corporate, Investor Relations and External Affairs functions including Public Affairs, Advocacy and Market Access.

  • Responsible for strategic development and execution of product communications programs:

  • Provides strategic leadership in the creation and implementation of impactful communication programs across Oncology and Immunology;

  • Serves as lead communications business partner to select brands within the franchises;

  • Helps drive disease awareness programs, branded communication activities, data and regulatory milestone activity and support, and digital communications;

  • Maximizes awareness of brands and milestones among external and internal stakeholders and the general, trade and online media;

  • Develops integrated campaigns to create and manage stakeholder perceptions that support business goals and help meet brand sales targets;

  • Delivers innovative approaches and plans in the digital and social media landscape

  • Develops product media strategy and actively engages and generates positive results for Sanofi

  • Manages issues associated with products to protect the company and brand reputation.

  • Anticipates, prepares for and manages media issues with the press.

  • Ensures close coordination and timely reporting with US & Global Media Relations

  • Serves as an internal communications counselor and ensures consistent strategic communications through applicable internal channels


  • Strong ability to work effectively across functions and levels and business units; proven collaborator

  • Ability to research, develop, deliver and measure communications strategies and plans with a goal of showcasing communications successes to internal and external audiences

  • Expertise in communications concepts, practices, strategies and tactics based on understanding of key audiences and corporate objectives

  • Strong understanding of media relations and external affairs industry topics

  • Proactive, self-starter and able to work independently and in team environment

  • Proven experience in a co-promote/co-development situation within the pharmaceutical industry

Required :

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Business Administration or Journalism

  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills

  • Excellent collaboration, negotiation and influencing skills

  • Strong issues management capabilities

  • Strong organizational skills

  • Pharmaceutical product PR communications background

  • Experience in internal and external communications; experience with co-promote products

  • Ability to collaborate in a heavy matrix environment

  • 5-8 years of experience in product PR, Communications and/or Corporate Communications in pharmaceuticals/biotech or with a healthcare public relations agency

  • Role is based in Cambridge, MA.
