  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance preferred

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, advanced Excel, and PowerPoint skills

  • Advanced knowledge of budget management, financial analysis, and financial modeling; working knowledge of accounting principles

  • Demonstrated experience with financial systems and data query tools

  • Must have excellent financial planning, analytical and project management skills as well as the ability to present financial plans to senior leaders.

  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. Must be well organized, flexible, and able to manage multiple challenging projects simultaneously in a decentralized environment and a fast-paced work setting.

  • Collaborative working style with excellent problem-solving and presentation skills.

  • Ability to build strong relationships with people at all levels of the organization.

  • Previous higher education experience and working knowledge of Harvard systems and policies desired.

Position Description:Central Finance and Administration drives efficiency and consistency in policy and practice across broader Central Administration. The organization broadly oversees the budgeting, accounting, reporting, and strategic financial management needs of core Central Administration, supporting the Executive Vice President and Assistant Vice President for Central Finance and Administration. As a Senior Manager, Financial Operations, the position will report to the Director of Finance for Central Finance and Administration and serve as the primary budget and accounting manager for several shared services units directly interfacing with the unit leads and will oversee the accounting and transactional responsibilities for these units. This position will also oversee all tub finance office accounting and fixed asset responsibilities. This role manages a team of two financial analysts.

Duties and Responsibilities

Shared Service model

  • Oversee all financial planning efforts (budget, forecasts, multi-year), accounting, and reporting for the CADM shared service units, linking current and future strategy; leading the annual budget process; supervising and communicating quarterly forecasts and monthly management reports that foster informed leadership decision-making; and interfacing and collaborating directly with shared service units’ VPs and Senior leadership teams

  • Develop deep understanding of each unit’s organizational business drivers and serve as a key financial thought partner for initiatives and questions

  • Manage the financial analysts’ responsibility for supporting each unit’s financial planning and reporting and performing controller related responsibilities for these units.

  • Oversee the development, execution, and standardization of processes, the units’ transaction including payables, receivables, expense reimbursements, corporate cards, purchase cards, cash management, B2P, journal vouchers and internal billing

  • Work closely with Senior Financial Analyst, CFA to ensure all client deliverables are coordinated and adhere to deadlines.

Tub Financial Office (tubs 610 and 645)

  • On a monthly and/or quarterly basis, perform and/or review closing journal entries, balance sheet inquiries, fixed asset management responsibilities, flux analyses and reconciliations for Central Administration, satisfying quarterly accounting deliverables.

  • Serve as the financial policy and procedure liaison and communication hub for Central Administration, providing trainings and guidance, establishing Central Administration stakeholder groups for knowledge sharing, and staying abreast of University accounting and policy updates.

  • Lead the development of consistent Central Administration financial and operational policies and Act as Central Administration advisor and vocal contributor in University policy and operational forums and committees, such as the Financial Policy Review Committee and the Financial Managers Forum

  • Ensure financial compliance with University policies and procedures, audit and accounting disclosure requirements, and applicable legal rules and regulations.

Management

  • Responsible for creating a high-performing team, focusing on a service mindset, skill development, staff engagement, and management coaching, with the goal of superior service for our clients.

  • Supervise a team of two financial analysts, and manage the overall productivity and performance of the team

  • Responsible for effective staff management for a team of employees, hiring and orientation, training and development, workflow and performance management, and the promotion of an inclusive and innovative work environment

  • Represent Central Administration in cross-unit working groups and committees, especially in development and improvement of accounting systems and tools
