SENIOR FINANCIAL OFFICER, Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE), to administer and manage CEE’s financial activities, including pre- and post-award administration and the overall management of funding from a wide variety of federal/industrial/foundation sponsors with a volume of $13M in expenditures. Responsibilities include complex and comprehensive financial management in the development and submission of research proposals; monitoring the financial performance of grants/contracts and ensuring compliance with MIT policies and sponsor requirements; serving as a primary information and operations resource for principal investigators, faculty, and research and administrative staff on matters pertaining to research administration; overseeing the department’s financial office; overseeing cost sharing, under-recovery, and other research-related issues; training, supervising, and recruiting team members and providing guidance on financial matters, conducting performance evaluations, and promoting professional development; and managing the team’s faculty assignments and workload, assigning account portfolios, proposals, and other daily work as appropriate to ensure fair distribution and even exposure.
Job Requirements
REQUIRED: bachelor’s degree; five years’ accounting/finance experience, including pre-and post-award grants management/administration experience in a university setting; knowledge of federal research regulations; advanced-level computer skills and proficiency with Excel and Word; knowledge of accounting software, preferably SAP; excellent project management, leadership, organizational, analytical, customer service, and communication skills; attention to detail; and sound judgment with confidential information. Must be able to identify problems and provide solutions; multitask; handle a large work volume despite frequent interruptions in a fast-paced and challenging environment; provide constructive feedback; interact effectively with faculty/staff/students; and perform hands-on work in a team-based work group. PREFERRED: experience with MIT financial systems and sponsored accounting; demonstrated effective supervisory experience; and (Kuali) Coeus, Cognos, and NIMBUS experience. Job #22450-93/2/23
