SUMMARY:

Generation Bio is looking for a Scientist, Bioconjugation Chemistry. This is a role in the evolving bioconjugation group at Generation Bio, and the Scientist will have the opportunity to contribute to the advancement of new platform technologies, bioconjugation technologies, and pipeline candidates. Specifically, you will contribute to innovation and optimization related to synthesis, purification and characterization of Generation Bio’s platform technology components. In this role, you will have the opportunity to take part in developing and executing scientific research aimed at bioconjugation chemistry. You will be immersed in a learning and team-focused environment, where demonstration of an open mind and interest in mastering this new therapeutic space, and close collaboration with fellow team members are keys to your success.

RESPONSIBLITIES:

  • Contribute to scientific efforts aimed at the development of synthesis, purification, and characterization methods for the diverse complex bioconjugates that are advancing our cell-targeted lipid nanoparticle (ctLNP) technology to enable delivery to new tissues and cell types

  • Execute the preparation and purification of bioconjugates by applying established methodologies as well as developing new techniques and interpreting data

  • Apply and develop methods to characterize and analyze complex bioconjugates also in the context of ctLNPs

  • Prioritize and perform work independently, be self-motivated and capable of working in a multi-disciplinary environment

  • Participation in CRO activities, including coordinating project priorities and timelines as well as quality of deliverables with internal demand

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ph.D. in synthetic organic chemistry or biotherapeutics (degree in synthetic organic chemistry) or equivalent with 0+ years of experience, or M.S. with >6 years of experience in a development setting.

  • Experience includes modern organic synthesis, especially as applied to orthogonal bioconjugation chemistry, chromatography and analytical techniques including HPLC, MS, LC/MS and NMR.

  • Prior experience in handling projects of a multidisciplinary nature involving complex synthesis, bioconjugation chemistry and mechanistic studies

  • Experience in the synthesis and evaluation of nucleic acid conjugates, antibody or peptide conjugates, and linkers

  • Expertise in purification and analytical techniques for bioconjugates

  • Close collaboration in cross-functional teams, presentation of data
