RF ENGINEER, Plasma Science and Fusion Center (PSFC), to provide support (design, analysis and operation) for physics projects aimed at PSFC’s core mission of accelerating the development of fusion energy. The primary project to be supported is the high field side current drive project at the DIII-D National Fusion Facility in San Diego. The RF transmitters are based on 4.6 GHz klystrons and utilize PSM and advanced pulsed power supplies. The application of RF power to plasmas is extremely challenging and PSFC has a tradition of relentless innovation. Will be responsible for the RF transmitter, associated power supplies, instrumentation, and control; and for the instrumentation and control of the klystron transmitter; deliver detailed concepts and support these concepts with detailed modeling; participate in and lead design reviews; provide critical analysis and suggestions for overcoming design and operational challenges; and identify process deficiencies and develop solutions to improve those deficiencies. Will join a team of physicists, engineers, and technicians and will be expected to create a work environment that is conducive to teamwork and professional development. The position offers an opportunity for the RF engineer to present the results of their work at technical conferences and to publish them in peer-reviewed journals.
